Here is why I think the Giants should make an aggressive trade for Jonathan Taylor:
Making a trade for Jonathan Taylor is NOT about making a playoff run this season.
It’s about opening up a 2-3-year championship window.
The Giants fully believe they are going to the playoffs this year. They just watched the Seahawks win a Super Bowl with an above-average quarterback, an elite running back, an elite WR1, and a great defense.
The Giants believe they will have all of those boxes checked if they trade for Taylor. Which means they believe that if they get into the dance, they will have the pieces to make a run.
But they will also believe that Taylor gives them the window to make that run, not just this year, but for the next two years while he’s under contract — whether McCarthy or Dart is the starting quarterback.
The Giants go into the 2027 season looking like contenders if they have JT, Nabers, Dart/JJM, and Burns back in a great defense.
They don’t necessarily look like contenders with those same pieces, plus an unproven rookie drafted 25th overall instead of Taylor.
So that’s the argument. It’s not about pushing for a run just this season. It’s about opening up a 2-3 year championship window with Taylor on his current contract.
So for that reason, if John Harbaugh wants to make the trade, I want to see it get done.

Jonathan Taylor is the most PROVEN running back on the trade market and it's not close. As of this morning the Colts are open to dealing him, and the Giants are one of 5 teams that have shown interest.
He’s had an INSANE career so far:
8,185 rushing yards, 2nd in Colts history behind only Edgerrin James.
77 rushing TDs, the most in franchise history.
3x Pro Bowler. 2021 rushing title with 1,811 yards.
And he's not slowing down. 1,585 yards and 18 rushing TDs last year. 8 more through 7 games this year, tied for the NFL lead, plus 109 scrimmage yards a game on a 2-5 team that's selling off its best players.
That's 26 rushing TDs in his last 24 games.
Now the contract, because this is VERY important to the story. He signed a 2-year, $44M extension in August, $39M guaranteed, through 2028. Indy ALREADY paid the $15M signing bonus. Whoever gets him this year only picks up the rest of a $6.98M base salary. Then it's $15M in 2027 and about $17M in 2028.
Look at the Giants backfield right now. Tracy is on IR. Najee got cut. Skattebo had 4 fumbles in the first 5 weeks and got ZERO touches against the Saints before he went off for 124 in Houston.
Taylor and Skattebo together is thunder AND thunder. Would be a sick tandem!
The Giants are 4-2-1 and sitting FIRST in the NFC East with Philly up next. Indy wants a McCaffrey-type haul.
