CAIRO/GAZA, Oct 19 (Reuters) - The UN World Food Programme has said funding shortages are forcing major cuts to its aid programme in Gaza, leaving about 500,000 people without monthly food support in ‌a territory where two-thirds of the population struggle to get enough to eat. reuters.com/world/middle-eas…

NAZARETH, Israel, Oct 19 (Reuters) - Israel's Palestinian leaders are urging people in the minority Arab community to vote in big numbers in next week's election as they seek to unseat Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and topple the most right-wing government in the country's history. High turnout by the 21% Arab minority, who are Palestinian by heritage but Israeli by citizenship, could nudge Israel's complex coalition arithmetic in favour of an anti-Netanyahu bloc led by a ‌former military chief, Gadi Eisenkot. reuters.com/world/middle-eas…

DUBAI, Oct 15 (Reuters) - The Houthi attacks on Saudi Arabia are about more than Yemen. By targeting infrastructure and disrupting investment events central to Saudi Arabia's economic ambitions, they aim to pressure Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman to both meet Houthi demands in Yemen and persuade US President Donald Trump to ease the US blockade choking Iran's economy, according to Saudi, Iranian and regional sources. reuters.com/world/middle-eas…

The three new fortified bases are in Khiam, Maroun El Ras and Maiss El Jabal, built this year. Unifil also counted roughly 20 additional Israeli positions inside the buffer zone. The entrenchment is playing out on the ground too. I've already reported on how Israel is physically expanding its zone of occupation - what it calls a 'security/buffer zone'. Last week that expansion led to a standoff between Lebanese army and Israeli forces at a Deir Mimas checkpoint, forcing LAF to withdraw despite having previously coordinated through the US-backed mechanism. And nine days before that, Kfarshouba's mayor was interrogated & his phone confiscated, with an Israeli officer reportedly telling him to bypass the US-backed mechanism and instead coordinate needs directly with the Israeli army.
NEW: Unifil has counted nearly 30 Israeli military positions across south Lebanon - including eight fortified bases. Revealing Israeli entrenchment in Lebanese territory, even as US-mediated negotiations for Israeli withdrawal/Hezb disarmament/LAF control prod on. [Three of the eight fortified bases are new from 2026. The remaining 5 were established in 2024.] thenationalnews.com/news/men…

JERUSALEM, Sept 17 (Reuters) - Israel has added a tender for 2,167 housing units to its E1 settlement expansion plan, Israeli rights groups said of a project that critics say endangers a future Palestinian state.
