Yesterday's NC voters by propensity 🔵 DEM | 🔴 REP 4/4: 54.6% | 64.8% 3/4: 17.4% | 16.3% 2/4: 11.7% | 8.3% 1/4: 9.9% | 6.6% 0/4: 6.3% | 3.9% Yesterday was the worst day yet for the GOP on just pure 4/4 gap as it hit double digits for the first time. Republicans could certainly win some individual days this week, but the concern for the GOP is that yesterday's topline "improvement" came almost entirely from higher-propensity Republicans turning out, rather than any meaningful increase in low-propensity participation. If that's what it takes to narrow the gap, I worry about what the underlying turnout numbers will look like even on upcoming days when Republicans will actually lead or at least get close to it. North Carolina continues to look increasingly like a reversal of Florida in 2022, when Republicans benefited from an overwhelmingly favorable turnout environment. The key difference is that Democrats in Florida were largely protected by districts drawn to concentrate Democratic voters, so their statewide collapse translated into relatively few additional House losses. In North Carolina, it's Republicans who are defending an aggressive gerrymander in what could become a similarly unfavorable turnout environment. Republicans now have roughly four days of early voting, plus Election Day, to turn things around and bring more low-propensity voters into the electorate. So far, there's no evidence of that beginning to happen. Republicans essentially have to hope that a substantial number of low- and medium-propensity voters, despite showing limited enthusiasm so far, turn out at the last minute. But in a state like North Carolina, where most ballots are cast early, there's only so much ground that can realistically be made up late. I still expect some regression toward the mean, and I continue to view Republicans as favored in all nine of their favored congressional seats. But if these turnout dynamics persist through Election Day, I could see NC-03 and NC-13 moving into toss-up territory, which is something I didn't see coming just a few weeks ago.

Yesterday was another stronger-than-expected day for Democrats in Florida's in-person early vote. The electorate will continue to get more Republican as the GOP did backload its turnout (moving from R+6.9 to R+7.6 yesterday), but the question is just how much further right it gets. At this point, I think we're probably looking at a high-single-digit final Republican electorate by total party registration (after considering mail, IPEV, and Election Day votes). Nothing insane like what we're seeing in North Carolina for Democrats, but still a meaningful improvement relative to 2024. That would keep Jolly within striking distance; he has a tough path, but certainly a plausible one. It would require a really strong performance with independents and other swing voters although he'd be helped by the national environment.

There are people on here who will tell you noticing a 17+ point shift away from Republicans vs 2024 is "worthless," and not even worth observing. That it has no predictive power just because it can't give you final answers. You're not wrong for thinking they're wrong. They are.

If you want to a take a degenerate flyer on Dems over-performing, it feels like NJ-02 is a good place to do it. Mullock (D Nom) only 22-23% on Kalshi still. Took a small position in the margin market, feels like it may be close-ish (mid single digits or lower) at least.
New Jersey 2nd congressional district 🔴 Jeff Van Drew Mail + In-Person Early: 53,417 🔵 DEM 29,216 (54.7%) 🔴 GOP 16,034 (30.0%) ⚪️ OTH 8,167 (15.3%)

For everyone else: follow the rules, it’s your responsibility to make sure everything is in order with something as serious as your immigration status, no exceptions For your friends: hey everyone makes mistakes, we should show some mercy here
Yes, happy to explain. I don’t think it’s wise to let your opinion of an entire immigration policy be dictated by outlier cases, tragic cases, or sad stories. I also support the second amendment even when there are tragic cases of gun violence. I support ICE and I believe mass deportations are necessary. I believe in law and order and I believe in justice. So does Samuel Sey. I don’t fault ICE for doing its job. I also believe in helping friends when you can, and also believe that mercy is sometimes appropriate. I know Samuel—he’s a good man of integrity. He has made good faith effort to file the right paperwork and comply with the law. He didn’t deceive or purposefully break the law. He would make an excellent American citizen. I hope he can become one someday. There are many other similar cases, I’m sure. It doesn’t change my opinion. All we can do is support justice as well as we can, and extend mercy where appropriate to the best of our ability. You might find this inconsistent, but I don’t. It’s just part of living in a messy world.

Rs are starting the final week of early/mail voting in big holes in multiple states. We really have to see things turn around, like *today*, to make some of these Senate races (Georgia, North Carolina, etc....) remotely competitive/close in the end. In Texas, have to start seeing rurals showing up, or it's very defensible to call Talarico the outright favorite heading into E Day. In Florida, Rs are obviously still favored... but they still haven't taken the lead after multiple days of IPEV, which is a really bad sign for them.

Montgomery is doing horrendously today. It's tracking at like 85% of *Saturday* in these last few hours, and it hasn't had a single hour break 70% of 2024. Week 2's Monday was Montgomery's biggest day in 2024, so the expectation was that today would be massive, but it's just not.

Amid strong Democratic early voting in North Carolina, Democrats are pulling money out of left-trending, Trump+9 NC-11 out of confidence in their chances. Meanwhile, Republicans have increased spending in Trump+16 NC-09. Battleground in the state has shifted a lot.
