If you're a business owner shopping for financial help, ask every firm these 3 things:
Who will I actually talk to?
How fast do you usually respond?
Do you work with businesses like mine?
The answers tell you more than any website.
Bootstrapping update: still no outside money, still building Sam's List one firm and one client at a time.
Some weeks it feels slow. Then a client tells us they finally found a CPA who gets their business, and it's worth it.
Accountants, bookkeepers, and fractional CFOs: what's one question clients ask you constantly that you wish they understood before the first call?
Drop it below. I'm collecting these.

I think one-time consultation at this point. They haven’t moved so it’s a matter of comparing options and seeing what works best with their retirement goals.
Building a marketplace taught me something I didn't expect.
The firms that win clients aren't always the most credentialed. They're the ones that answer fast, explain things simply, and have happy clients willing to say so.
Reviews are the new referral.

I can't believe I'm typing this but @NotGoKGreen paid $8,000 to put the @hi_samslist logo on a creator’s thigh (@marclou) during a Hyrox fitness event...wtf???
BTW...Kimi has never spent a SINGLE DOLLAR on ads. So why was THIS her first sponsorship?!
On today's episode of the @SponsorMagnet podcast, we got into:
→ What happened to her logo within minutes of the race starting
→ The thing Marc did that wasn’t in the deal, and why it made the sponsorship worth it
→ Why 20+ creators pitched her the same idea and none of them got a reply
→ The sneaky move a $400M competitor pulled that she’s still jealous of
→ The exact pitch that would get her to say yes to a creator tomorrow
So did she make her $8K back?

most business owners don't need a better accountant. They need to know which kind of financial pro they actually need.
Bookkeeper keeps the books.
CPA handles taxes and compliance.
Fractional CFO helps you plan and grow.
Hiring the wrong one is why so many people say "my accountant isn't helping."
Nobody outbid me on Marc Lou's left quad.
$8,000. Bootstrapped. Accounting marketplace.
A few weeks later we got a customer from it, website traffic jumped 238% during launch week, and people still open conversations with "so tell me about the left quad."
Weirdest ad buy of my life. Also weirdly effective.
If you're an accountant or financial advisor who wants visibility that isn't another LinkedIn carousel, Sam's List is still taking firms: samslist.com
"My CPA isn't doing what I need them to do."
I hear this every week.
Half the time it's not that the CPA is bad. It's that they hired a tax preparer and expected a fractional CFO.
Bookkeeper ≠ CPA ≠ controller ≠ fractional CFO ≠ financial advisor.
Most business owners treat those as synonyms. They're not.
If you're not sure which one you actually need, take the quiz on Sam's List and compare real reviews before you marry the first name your buddy gives you.

THAT’S A WRAP!!
Spent the day shadowing @jonjfarb, a fractional CFO, real estate investor, and founder who:
- Only works 6 months out of the year
- Brushes his teeth 3x a day, after every meal lol
- Always picks up the phone when his mom calls, no matter what
- Goes above and beyond to take care of and reward his employees
- Takes a 30-minute Spanish lesson every single day
- Is constantly finding new ways to learn, grow, and challenge himself
- Owns an accounting/bookkeeping firm (and is actively looking to acquire more!)
- Owns rental properties across the country (also actively buying)
- Randomly walks up to strangers just to compliment them
- Might genuinely be one of the best connectors I’ve ever met
I didn’t even know who Jon was a week ago.
Someone introduced us because I run Sam’s List, a directory that helps people find accountants, bookkeepers, fractional CFOs, and financial advisors.
And now I just spent an entire day getting a front row seat to how he lives, works, thinks, and treats the people around him.
One of my favorite things about building Sam’s List is getting access to people like Jon and seeing the side of financial professionals that most people never get to see.
Their personalities, routines, relationships, hobbies, ambitions, and all the things that have absolutely nothing to do with accounting.
And I think there’s something really important about that.
When you’re hiring someone to handle your company’s finances, you’re not just hiring a list of credentials and services.
You’re choosing someone you might be talking to regularly for YEARS. Someone you’re trusting with some of the most personal and important parts of your business.
Of course experience, expertise, and fit matter. But do you actually like them? Do you feel comfortable asking them questions? Is this someone you’d enjoy working with?
That’s a part of finding an accountant or financial advisor I don’t think gets nearly enough attention.
Anyway, I had SO much fun doing this and learned a ton from Jon, especially about being intentional with your time, constantly learning, how to properly run and scale a business, and helping the people around you.
Thank you for letting me invade your life for a day, Jon!!

- Jon’s on his 8th meeting of the day
- This one is his weekly marketing call with one of his friends who owns a marketing agency
- For someone who runs 3 different companies, it’s been interesting to see how much he’s focused on 1) development personally and how it directly improves his businesses 2) nurturing relationships from all walks of life
- Unrelated but important: We have not eaten yet. This 6 foot 10 giant has been running off of one bitter coffee from Joe & The Juice.

- Jon met Jeremy online 5 years ago because they were both posting videos about real estate
- They’re finally meeting IRL for the first time and filming for both of their podcasts talking about real estate and growing their multiple businesses
- my favorite part: Jeremy talking about why he fired his accountant, how he found the replacement, and then gave him 15 more clients through his real estate community. The power of good work!
- Jeremy’s company is bnbcalc.com/
- Jon’s podcast is jonfarber.co/podcast

- Each of the IRL meetings Jon has today happened from the internet
- Yesterday he posted here on Twitter that he wanted to grab coffee with founders here in NYC. A guy replied shortly after and then a few hours later grabbed coffee
- Screw the scheduled meetings. Make it happen! No time like the present! (my comment. not jon’s)
ew. it should be renamed to The Auriemma

i set up a couple of grokbots for my friend who opened up her own therapy practice in dallas. it does her seo and lead sourcing.
in one week she just signed 2 new clients from that outreach and her site traffic has more than doubled. she's been paying an agency for 4 months $10k+ and their work has contributed nothing.
anyone else need help? this is fun. we are living in exciting times!

- Second part of the day starts with a few IRL meetups
- First one is with a fellow real estate investor friend Jon made from the internet a few years back. Him and his wife recently launched a new business generating $1-$2M per month and are here visiting NYC for a few days
- Second meet up is with another RE friend that Jon met on the internet. He built a deal analysis tool for Airbnbs and his wife is one of the largest creators on the internet
