That confusion is really common. A simple rule of thumb is that your CPA should be able to tell you the tax effect of almost any money decision, even if the advisor picks the investment. If the two of them never talk to each other, that's the real gap.

From @TheAthletic: The WNBA Finals starting at 12:30 p.m. Eastern is an embarrassment, our columnist writes. "Inexcusably obtuse planning, astoundingly bad optics, and most of all a wildly crappy thing to do to the people who consume your product." nyti.ms/4ssSHTm

I can't believe I'm typing this but @NotGoKGreen paid $8,000 to put the @hi_samslist logo on a creator’s thigh (@marclou) during a Hyrox fitness event...wtf??? BTW...Kimi has never spent a SINGLE DOLLAR on ads. So why was THIS her first sponsorship?! On today's episode of the @SponsorMagnet podcast, we got into: → What happened to her logo within minutes of the race starting → The thing Marc did that wasn’t in the deal, and why it made the sponsorship worth it → Why 20+ creators pitched her the same idea and none of them got a reply → The sneaky move a $400M competitor pulled that she’s still jealous of → The exact pitch that would get her to say yes to a creator tomorrow So did she make her $8K back? Find out in the full episode below!

THAT’S A WRAP!! Spent the day shadowing @jonjfarb, a fractional CFO, real estate investor, and founder who: - Only works 6 months out of the year - Brushes his teeth 3x a day, after every meal lol - Always picks up the phone when his mom calls, no matter what - Goes above and beyond to take care of and reward his employees - Takes a 30-minute Spanish lesson every single day - Is constantly finding new ways to learn, grow, and challenge himself - Owns an accounting/bookkeeping firm (and is actively looking to acquire more!) - Owns rental properties across the country (also actively buying) - Randomly walks up to strangers just to compliment them - Might genuinely be one of the best connectors I’ve ever met I didn’t even know who Jon was a week ago. Someone introduced us because I run Sam’s List, a directory that helps people find accountants, bookkeepers, fractional CFOs, and financial advisors. And now I just spent an entire day getting a front row seat to how he lives, works, thinks, and treats the people around him. One of my favorite things about building Sam’s List is getting access to people like Jon and seeing the side of financial professionals that most people never get to see. Their personalities, routines, relationships, hobbies, ambitions, and all the things that have absolutely nothing to do with accounting. And I think there’s something really important about that. When you’re hiring someone to handle your company’s finances, you’re not just hiring a list of credentials and services. You’re choosing someone you might be talking to regularly for YEARS. Someone you’re trusting with some of the most personal and important parts of your business. Of course experience, expertise, and fit matter. But do you actually like them? Do you feel comfortable asking them questions? Is this someone you’d enjoy working with? That’s a part of finding an accountant or financial advisor I don’t think gets nearly enough attention. Anyway, I had SO much fun doing this and learned a ton from Jon, especially about being intentional with your time, constantly learning, how to properly run and scale a business, and helping the people around you. Thank you for letting me invade your life for a day, Jon!! And if you’re looking for an accounting or bookkeeping firm, check out Jon and his team at 7daybookkeeper.com First of many days shadowing the people behind Sam’s List!
Meet Jon: the Fractional CFO / Real Estate Investor / Competitive Golfer I’ve been shadowing all day - Actively buying accounting and bookkeeping firms. Hit him up if you’re interested! - Not mentioned but important: His accounting firm is 7 Day Bookkeeper —> 7daybookkeeper.com - Actively taking clients

Great to catch up with @NotGoKGreen and learn about what she’s doing with @hi_samslist and other projects. Her company and community have grown insanely fast and after meeting her it’s obvious why. She’s a beast. It’s so cliche, but maybe NYC is actually the center of the universe? This week I’ve met more founders / creators IRL than I have in years. But than again, I’ve been here 5 minutes so time will tell.. **Also - if you’re a founder in NYC and want to connect. I’m going to be throwing some dinners / masterminds starting next week. If you want in, shoot me a dm or comment ⬇️

Accounting Today just covered our Financial Hiring Report. Businesses plan about $5k a year for an accountant until revenue passes $1M, then the typical budget triples to about $15k. Piece: accountingtoday.com/news Report: samslist.com/blog/the-financ…

And then pay the CPA to fix a lot of it. We used to take a lot of DIY clients for tax work. We spent so much time cleaning up the accounting. Then the client would wonder why they had penalties for underpaying because they didn’t know their numbers. It’s like running a business without a CFO. You can do it and save money on wages but lose it on strategy and oversight.

@NotGoKGreen Turning a quirky asset into marketing gold depends on storytelling. Show the journey, the challenge, and the payoff—people connect with auth.
Day 2 of trying to financially recover from the left quad. It’s official. Nobody outbid me. I (@hi_samslist ) am now the proud owner of $8,000 worth of a stranger’s (@marclou ) left quad and have approximately 8 days to figure out how to make that money back. So I need your help. If you had $8K of your company’s money riding on one man’s thigh, what would you do to make it worth it? I want all of them. I’m going to try as many as I can and document what actually happens. Either this becomes the best $8K I’ve ever spent on marketing or the worst financial decision I’ve made since starting Sam’s List. Time will tell! And in the meantime there are 2 ways you can help: 1) use Sam’s List to find an accounting firm, bookkeeper, or fractional CFO for your own company, or a financial advisor for your household needs and 2) if you own your own accounting/wealth management firm and need help with marketing and acquiring new clients, hit me up!!! #samslist #hyrox #marclou #leftquadbestquad

Day 5 of trying to financially recover from the left quad. Took the $8,000 question to a slightly different focus group this time. I was at the All-In Summit surrounded by founders, investors and just insanely smart, well-rounded, inquisitive people who have made significantly more business decisions than me, so naturally I asked them: Would you spend $8,000 of your company’s money to put your logo on a stranger’s left quad during HYROX with absolutely no guarantee of making it back? The answers were… mixed 😂 Still $8K in the hole. Still accepting ideas. Still committed to seeing how far I can take one extremely expensive thigh. Day 5. The left quad experiment continues. #samslist #hyrox #marclou

INBOX: Today, Unrivaled announced award-winning actor, producer and entrepreneur Issa Rae as an investor in the league. Rae’s investment came as part of the league’s oversubscribed Series C fundraise, announced in August, which propelled the league to a $650 million valuation.   “Unrivaled speaks to me and everyone who wants to set new standards, and what the league has done and continues to do for the best women’s basketball players in the world is something I’m proud to invest in,” said Rae. “After experiencing Unrivaled firsthand last season, it was clear that they’re building something special. I look forward to being part of the league’s growth and success to come.”

Two ways you can contirbute to the $8K Left Quad SMB Fund
Day 4 of trying to financially recover from the left quad. 🦵💪 Apparently I’ve done a great job telling the internet that I spent $8,000 on a stranger’s thigh and a less great job explaining how you can actually help me make it back lol. Also, if the name Sam’s List sounds a tiny bit familiar it’s because it’s named after my cofounder Sam Parr. A few years ago he made a post on Twitter asking people for accountant recommendations for people with complicated tax situations. That eventually became Sam’s List. The Uncle Sam/tax connection is just a very convenient double entendre that we are absolutely happy to take credit for 😂 Anyway, there are two very real ways to support the left quad recovery fund: 1. If you run an accounting, bookkeeping, fractional CFO or financial advisory firm and need help getting more clients, we can help market your firm. 2. If you own a business or have a complicated financial situation and need an accountant, bookkeeper, fractional CFO or financial advisor, use Sam’s List to find one. That’s the business. Those are my two paths to making the $8K back. Please consider supporting a small business and one extremely expensive left quad. Haha samslist.com #leftquadbestquad #hyrox #samslist #marclou

Member spotlight: Kimi Green @NotGoKGreen. She's building a powerhouse company with Sam's List, making it easy to actually find honest reviews for financial pros. And she's doing it on her way to buying a WNBA team. If you don't follow her yet, fix that. She's also just genuinely funny, which never hurts.
