You're missing the point. The OT can't be understood with the Gospel. Phillip knew the Gospel, and the Ethiopian did not. I can share the Gospel because I know the Gospel, as the Apostles left to us in the New Testament.

I'm saying that the Ethiopian only had Phillip whereas later Christians had the New Testament, whether orally or written.
Jeromy, Trent to Vatican II is not development, it is change.
To convert to Catholicism, someone has to exercise a certain amount of authority. You're essentially deciding to ascent to the teaching of Rome, based on your interpretation of Scripture, history, and tradition.

Catholics refer to false teachers like James Martin as "father."
Correct me if I'm wrong.
I actually enjoy a lot of Catholic theology, but it's maddening when it contradicts earlier teaching or has no or little support from Scripture.
I took an undergrad course on Vatican II at a Catholic university and I've read many of the documents twice, three times...

How do we understand the Old Testament as Christians? In light of the New Testament. How could the Ethiopian understand Isaiah with understanding the Gospel, without New Testament teaching?
Vatican II says Protestants are separated brethren and have valid baptisms. If someone believes, repents, and is baptized they are in Christ, yet Catholics will say Protestants are outside of the Church. How can you be in Christ and outside of his Church?

I notice you said "dogma" and not "teaching."
If you said teaching then you have to admit there has been teaching reversed or teaching not consistent with Trent.
I never said they were regular dudes. My whole argument began with the pope not being a divinely appointed office, which you have yet to prove and can't prove without applying RC ecclesiology which even Vatican II doesn't hold to.

How was the Ethiopian supposed to read the New Testament that didn't yet exist?
Replying to @littleonefaith
Why did the Holy Spirit tell the council of Trent and Vatican II something different? Are you not allowing the same latitude to Protestants?
Replying to @ShaneSchaetzel
You're equating the Transfiguration to average Joe Catholic praying to a departed Christian?
5, and the other writers , Luke, Mark and Jude, would have been close associates of the Apostles.
None of them mention the papacy as a divinely appointed institution, neither does Nicaea.
Who wrote any books of NT Scripture outside of the Twelve, Paul, Mark and Luke? Something seems to have changed with the passing of the Twelve.
