> Last autumn and winter, we carried out a survey to evaluate the suffering people experience from a range of conditions and experiences, collecting 485 responses. The goal was to gather data on suffering intensity and duration, which can be used to influence policy-setting and prioritisation, and ensure that those experiencing the most severe suffering are not neglected. Current metrics used in healthcare economics don't directly measure suffering, and I have argued for the use of specific metrics that focus on severe and extreme suffering. I've just published a post in the EA Forum with an analysis of our survey results. This analysis will help in designing a much larger round that can generate reliable data for a wide range of conditions. Link in the first comment.
