My Full Circle Moment
I almost didn’t invite them. And yet, each time I look at the pictures from the Ukarimu launch, my eyes are drawn to them.
I had hesitated because we were hosting a celebration for their birthdays the following day, and I didn’t want to tire them with back-to-back events.
But early on the morning of 8th October, I asked my brother Paul to invite our parents.
They said yes.
Seeing them in the audience was special.
My parents had served at St. Francis Chapel, Makerere University, for 19 years, with my dad as Chaplain.
Who could have imagined that nearly 19 years later, his daughter would be involved in launching something at the very university where he had served?
But the moment that meant even more to me was watching my parents sign the board commemorating the launch of @UkarimuCentre
My parents taught me generosity. They modelled it for me. And they continue to do so.
To have them present at the launch of the Ukarimu Centre, a place dedicated to understanding, documenting and celebrating African generosity, made the occasion even more meaningful to me.
What more could a child ask for?
Thank you, Mom and Dad, for teaching me generosity, not just through your words, but through the way you live.
And thank you for showing up. Even your presence was another act of generosity.
Having you there was beyond special.

UHURU SICKLE CELL RUN 2026 | A MOVEMENT FOR LIFE. A COMMITMENT TO HOPE.
What a day. What an incredible demonstration of community, solidarity and service to humanity.
Yesterday, hundreds of people gathered in Lira City for the 3rd Edition of the Annual Uhuru Sickle Cell Run, united by one powerful purpose: to raise awareness about sickle cell disease, promote early diagnosis, strengthen access to quality care and support families affected by SCD across the Lango Sub-region.
They came.
They ran.
They walked.
They stood together.
And most importantly, they chose to be part of the solution.
We are immensely proud and grateful to have successfully delivered the 2026 Uhuru Sickle Cell Run. The energy, generosity and solidarity demonstrated today reminded us of the power of communities coming together for a cause that touches thousands of lives.
Our sincere appreciation goes to our sponsors @BOU_Official @kcbbankug @UNOC_UG @Microhaem @MinofHealthUG @mbnlabs , @bayloruganda , @NicosamHealth, @HemexHealth @UNOC_UG @MinofHealthUG, partners, health professionals, security teams, media partners, volunteers, community leaders and everyone who contributed to making this remarkable day possible.
Your support strengthens the mission of the Catherine Phil Sickle Cell Support Initiative (CAPSCI).
Together, we can advance awareness, early diagnosis, quality care and hope for people living with sickle cell disease.
Run for Life. Run for Hope. Run Against Sickle Cell.

FINANCE MINISTER GIVES UPDATE ON THE STATE OF UGANDA’S ECONOMY
Key messages
1️⃣Let us avoid panic buying of foreign currency, speculative transactions driven by rumours and other behaviour that can amplify short-term pressure on the shilling. Remain calm, avoid panic-driven decisions.
2️⃣Government and the Bank of Uganda will continue to provide timely, factual communication to support informed decisions and confidence in the economy.
3️⃣Despite the current economic pressures, the fundamentals of our economy remain strong. Uganda's economy continues to grow, supported by increased production, investment and exports.
4️⃣Government and the Bank of Uganda are responding through prudent fiscal management and appropriate monetary policy.
5️⃣Government will rationalise non-essential expenditure, including foreign and domestic travel, workshops, meetings and other administrative costs, while protecting critical public services and priority development investments.
6️⃣Households should prioritise essential expenditure, conserve fuel and energy, and make informed purchasing decisions.
7️⃣Businesses should eliminate waste, improve operational efficiency, source inputs locally where commercially viable, and expand production for export markets.
Finance Minister @henrymusasizi1 has this afternoon delivered a statement to Parliament of Uganda on the State of Uganda’s Economy, explaining the recent depreciation of the Uganda shilling and the measures Government and the Bank of Uganda are taking to stabilise the shilling.
The Minister said the Ugandan shilling has come under significant pressure, weakening from approximately Shs 3,604 per US dollar in March 2026 to around Shs 4,500 by late October 2026.
Musasizi said the underlying pressure arises from an imbalance between the demand for and supply of foreign exchange, particularly US dollars.
“When demand for dollars to finance imports and meet other external obligations exceeds the supply generated by exports, investment and other foreign-exchange inflows, the price of the dollar rises,” said the Minister.
He said the higher international petroleum costs have increased Uganda's demand for foreign exchange, adding that geopolitical tensions in the Middle East have heightened uncertainty and pushed up petroleum-related costs, including shipping and insurance.
The Finance Minister said the demand for foreign exchange has increased across other sectors of the economy, adding that international financial conditions and market expectations have also contributed to the pressure.
He also noted that the declining global prices for key agricultural exports, particularly coffee and cocoa and reduced tourism receipts have temporarily constrained Uganda's foreign-exchange inflows.
✳️How Government and the Bank of Uganda are responding?
Musasizi said the Bank of Uganda has tightened monetary conditions, including raising the Central Bank Rate from 9.75 percent to 12 percent and increasing commercial banks' cash reserve requirement to 13.5 percent from 11 percent.
He said these measures are intended to moderate excessive demand, contain inflationary pressures and support confidence in the shilling.
“The Bank of Uganda will continue to manage liquidity and, where necessary, intervene in the foreign-exchange market to address excessive volatility, consistent with its mandate,” he said.
Musasizi said Uganda remains committed to a market-determined exchange rate which allows the economy to adjust to changes in external conditions.
Commenting about the international reserves, the Minister said they provide an important buffer against external shocks and their prudent management is necessary to address disruptive market conditions while preserving the country's capacity to meet external obligations.
On the fiscal side, Musasizi said Government is supporting monetary policy through expenditure restraint and careful prioritisation.

On Anne Juuko’s Kindness
One thing I learnt in my previous work life is that I am responsible for keeping myself grounded. Humility is a big part of doing that kind of job. Of getting people to work with you & die for you rather than work for & die working!! It is the most effective way to get results & even exceed them. Grounding is central to humility.
Back to its techniques. There are some that may seem bizarre but they work. Like a random prison visit or visiting a cemetery. Attending funerals. For me this has always been a must. Visiting hospitals especially those that cater to the underprivileged. Not to visit a patient, but to see misfortune & suffering. To remind you that this could be you or because of you. It also shapes you into a better person & do fulfilling good, where you are with what you have.
This is why I share with you a story my friend Anne Juuko has written about her involvement with child cancer at @UCCF_Official. And oh🫢! One other technique is to read about these things. That is simpler & perhaps less traumatic. So read this tearjerker if you have the courage.

Caught up with my brother and fellow village boy @OjokOkello_ to exchange ideas on how to unlock digital economic opportunities for rural youths in @OkereCity in partnership with @maarifasasa.
Imagine young people working a floor above the Shea Butter factory floor building digital solutions and exporting their services to clients all over the world. This is our goal. Our young people are our most valuable resource.
