Sheikh Hasina gives 5 points to restore stability in #Bangladesh ———— People's leader #SheikhHasina has addressed the nation for the first time since the political upheaval. She delivered the speech through an audio message at an event titled 'Save #Democracy in Bangladesh' organized at the Foreign Correspondents' Club (FCC) in New Delhi, India. Sheikh Hasina accused the Interim Government's Chief Advisor @Yunus_Centre of leading an 'illegal, violent' administration. In her speech, she repeatedly referred to @ChiefAdviserGoB as a 'squatter', 'money launderer' and 'power-hungry traitor'. Sheikh Hasina said, "Bangladesh is standing on the brink of destruction today." She alleged that the country has now become "a huge prison, a slaughterhouse and a valley of death." She claimed that #humanrights are being trampled, press freedom has been abolished and #violence against women and minorities is spreading. Describing the August 5 uprising as a “carefully orchestrated conspiracy,” Sheikh Hasina said that democracy in Bangladesh has been in exile since that day. According to her, law and order in the country currently does not exist and #mobviolence, looting and extortion have taken hold from the capital to the villages. She blamed extremist groups and foreign interests for this. Sheikh Hasina claimed that Dr. Yunus is pushing Bangladesh towards a larger regional conflict by handing over national resources and strategic interests to foreign powers. She said, “By deceiving the nation, the murderous fascist Yunus is leading our beloved motherland towards disaster.” Sheikh Hasina raised five main demands in her speech to restore stability in Bangladesh: 1. Remove the ‘illegal Yunus administration’ to ensure an environment for free and fair elections. 2. Restore public security by stopping daily violence. 3. Provide strong assurances for the protection of religious minorities, women and vulnerable populations. 4. Close politically motivated cases against #Journalists and @albd1971 leaders and activists and restore the impartiality of the judiciary. 5. The @UN must conduct a "new and impartial investigation" into the events of the past year. Finally, he claimed the #AwamiLeague as the "only legitimate guardian" of democracy in Bangladesh and called on the pro-liberation forces of the liberation war to unite to restore the constitution. At one point in his speech, #Bangabandhu's daughter Sheikh Hasina also challenged Yunus to fight against her in any seat. @sajeebwazed @nytimes @amnesty @UN_HRC @UN_News_Centre @WSJ @UNHumanRights @ALBDMedia @UN @BBC @Reuters @UN_SDG @AP @hrw @HRUpdatesbd @bdwatch2024 @ANI @MHCN983 @MAarafat71 @ctgchatter @saddamhussainbd @ArifaRahmanRuma

⁨📷⁩ ⁨At government directives, Police criminalises garment workers for demanding fair wage to keep up with inflation and rising household prices in Bangladesh Amid arbitrary detention of innocent citizens, at least 4000 people are implicated in three separate draconian cases filed by cops in Gazipur, as part of ruthless crackdown to make lives miserable for garment workers. While cops claim these cases are related to violence, record of fake cases to extort innocent citizens over two years proved this latest assault designed to extort garment workers and dismantle ongoing protest joined by tens of thousands of workers who are demanding fair wages. channelionline.com/worker-pr… #WageProtest #PoliceBrutality #Bangladesh #RMGWorkersProtest ⁩

At least 135 arrests and detentions reported across #Bangladesh in connection with ongoing #RMG #workers’ #protests , as of 3 November 2026. At least 135–138 arrests and detentions have been reported across Bangladesh amid ongoing protests by ready-made garment (RMG) workers demanding fairer wages, better working conditions and other labour rights. These figures have been compiled from reports published by national and local media outlets in both Bangla and English. Two important qualifications must be noted: 1. The figures are conservative and provisional. Police Headquarters separately reported the arrest of 33 alleged "saboteurs" accused of posing as garment workers. These arrests have been linked to allegations of involvement by Awami League activists in the protests. However, because some of these 33 arrests may overlap with those already reported in Mirpur and elsewhere, we have excluded them from the current tally to avoid double-counting. If all 33 represent additional, distinct arrests, the total could rise to 168–171 arrests and detentions. 2. Police Headquarters has not released a comprehensive, updated breakdown of arrests and detentions nationwide. Not all arrests and detentions maybe reported. Consequently, the actual number is likely to be higher than the figures currently documented. Geographical Breakdown of Reported Arrests and Detentions - Mirpur, Dhaka: 64 - Gazipur: 37 -Savar–Ashulia: 13–15 - Narayanganj: 21–22 Total: 135–138 reported arrests and detentions. Where media reports potentially overlap, a range has been used rather than adding figures that may refer to the same individuals. Concerns Over Freedom of Assembly and Arbitrary Detention The scale of reported arrests raises serious questions about the government's response to workers exercising their rights to peaceful assembly, freedom of expression and collective action. Garment workers have legitimate grievances concerning inadequate wages, rising living costs, job insecurity and working conditions. Their demands deserve meaningful engagement, not criminalisation. Particularly concerning is the apparent attempt to frame sections of the protests as politically motivated or orchestrated by opposition activists. Political affiliation, whether real or alleged, cannot in itself justify arrest or detention. The authorities should immediately publish a comprehensive, disaggregated list of arrests and detentions connected with the protests, clarify the legal grounds for each arrest, ensure access to legal representation and due process, and release anyone detained solely for peaceful protest or political affiliation. ... ⁨Don’t Raise Wages. Brand Workers as Awami League Supporters. Beat Them With Impunity The BNP’s playbook for crushing Bangladesh’s garment workers’ movement for fair wages is increasingly brutal. Instead of addressing their legitimate demands, BNP cadres are demonising underpaid workers as Awami League activists and unleashing physical violence against them. This footage exposes the alarming vulnerability of millions of garment workers whose basic rights, dignity and even lives remain under threat. The world must not look away.⁩ #Bangladesh #whomakesyourclothes #WhoMakesYourShirts

Bangladesh’s Garment Workers Enter Fourth Day of Protests as Wage Board Fails to Act For the fourth consecutive day, garment workers across Bangladesh are taking to the streets, demanding a minimum monthly wage of Tk 30,000, up from the current Tk 12,500. Despite the formation of a six-member wage board on November 1, it has yet to hold its first meeting. Meanwhile, workers face police crackdowns, tear gas, arrests and mounting pressure to abandon their protests and return to factories. Reports from Gazipur also point to the presence of ruling BNP activists alongside police during confrontations with workers. Workers are demanding more than higher wages. They want affordable food, trade union rights, an end to arbitrary layoffs and justice for workers killed in past incidents. With nearly four million people employed in the garment sector, the question remains: Why are workers being pressured to return to work when meaningful negotiations over their survival wages have not even begun? Fair wages are not a privilege. They are a basic right. Read ➡️ wireast.com/bangladesh-garme… #Bangladesh #GarmentWorkers #WorkersRights #FairWages #LabourRights

APCs, Water Cannons, Rubber Bullets, Tear Gas Shells and Stun Grenades: Government’s Hardline Response to Garment Workers’ Protests Turns Narayanganj into a Battlefield, Leaving Several Injured. As garment #workers continue protesting across #Bangladesh’s industrial belts, demanding fairer wages and better working conditions, the #BNP Government has escalated its security response, deploying the paramilitary Border Guard Bangladesh (#BGB) alongside regular law enforcement personnel. In #Narayanganj, this heavily militarised approach has turned areas of worker protests into scenes resembling a battlefield. Rather than engaging with workers over their legitimate grievances, the authorities have confronted protesters with armoured personnel carriers (APCs), water cannons, tear gas shells, stun grenades and rubber bullets. Several garment workers have reportedly sustained injuries during the confrontations, along with one member of the law enforcement agencies. News: dhakatribune.com/bangladesh/… The deployment of paramilitary forces and the use of such extensive crowd-control measures against workers demanding a living wage raise serious questions about the government's commitment to freedom of peaceful assembly and workers' rights. Garment workers demanding fair wages and decent working conditions should not be treated as security threats. The government's response must be guided by necessity, proportionality and respect for fundamental rights. ... Law enforcement unleaded extrajudicial killing spree against fair wage demanding workers ——- No accountability, no rights for underpaid garment workers in Bangladesh A mid aged youth Tawfiq from northern Bangladesh stood in solidarity with thousands of underpaid workers for a better life. But his life has come to an abrupt end by the ongoing deadly assault by cops and paramilitary forces authorised by BNP. This extrajudicial killing marks ongoing grave rights abuses unfolding in Bangladesh at the behest of BNP’s Tarique Rahman. Hundreds of garment workers demanding fair wage were critically wounded, fighting battle for lives . Every day hundreds more are getting injured and arbitrarily thrown behind bars as BNP publicly declared these poverty hit workers as enemies of the state. #Bangladesh #RMGWorkers #WhoMakesYourShirts

⁨Bangladesh’s Garment Workers Under the Shadow of Death How long will the international community remain silent as unarmed garment workers face brutal, state-backed repression for demanding fair wages? A disturbing video shows armed police brutally assaulting an unarmed female garment worker in broad daylight. This is the face of a crackdown targeting thousands of workers struggling to survive amid soaring inflation and poverty. The right to demand a living wage is not a crime. It is a fundamental right. The promise of reform has instead become a tool of repression. How many more workers must suffer before the UN and Western governments hold the authorities accountable? Workers deserve dignity, not batons and bullets.⁩ #BangladeshCrisis #RMGWorkersProtest #WhoMakesYourClothes #BNP

The people behind your clothes deserve more than poverty wages and police brutality. At current minimum-wage benchmarks, a garment worker in Bangladesh must toil for 16 hours and 33 minutes to earn what workers in the UK earn in just 28 minutes. Their demand? Tk 30,000 a month—roughly US$8 a day—for a life of dignity. Yet workers demanding fair pay are being met with tear gas and water cannons. Asking for a living wage is not a crime. It is a basic labour right. #WhoMakesYourClothes #WageProtest #RMGWorkersProtest #Bangladesh

From France and Germany to India, people protest rising living costs. In Bangladesh, workers face a double threat: hunger at home and violence when they protest. Hunger is not a crime. A living wage is not a luxury. Stand with workers—not repression. #WhoMakesYourClothes

⁨THE HANDS THAT BUILD BANGLADESH ARE NOW FACING STATE REPRESSION! Disturbing scenes from Mirpur and Gazipur expose the brutal crackdown on garment workers under the BNP government. The very workers sustaining Bangladesh’s export economy are being beaten, intimidated and denied their right to fair wages and dignity. Workers are not enemies of the state. They are the backbone of the nation. Stop the repression. Respect workers’ rights.⁩ #Bangladesh #RMGWorkersProtest #WhoMakesYourClothes

Laili Begum can no longer afford to keep her two children in school. There are days when the 37-year-old garment worker struggles to put even one proper meal on the table. Her 15-year-old daughter and 12-year-old son dropped out of school earlier this year because she could not afford their education. “We can barely afford one proper meal a day. This morning, we had only puffed rice and Bombay mix [a snack]. There was nothing for lunch. We’ve been going hungry, hoping to have a proper meal tonight. Yesterday was the same. This is how we survive now,” she told Al Jazeera. “My son is so thin that you can count every rib in his chest. What a remarkable example of “public-private partnership” in #Bangladesh! #BNP activists roughing up protesting garment workers in #Dhaka before handing them over to the police for detention. We have previously witnessed similar instances of cooperation between police and BNP activists, involving mob violence against #AwamiLeague leaders and activists, followed by their detention by law enforcement authorities. Now, it appears that suppressing workers’ protests has also become a joint undertaking. Workers demanding fair wages and better working conditions should not face intimidation, physical violence or arbitrary detention. The involvement of ruling party activists in suppressing peaceful protests is deeply troubling and must be condemned unequivocally. The right to peaceful assembly is a fundamental human right, not a privilege granted at the discretion of the ruling party. The authorities have a duty to protect protesting workers, not silence them through intimidation and force. .... @hrw @ActionAid @Oxfam @ilo @amnestysasia @BonaveroIHR @GRC_HumanRights @UN_HRC @davemorrissey64 @JamesPurefoy @ESandersFCDO @PearsonElaine @AgnesCallamard @StateDRL @ituc @ILOAsiaPacific @HRF @S_Asian_Rights @uniglobalunion @global_labor @TUCGlobal
