The more I think about what it really means to be a pacifist, the more I realize it has very little to do with staying silent in the face of injustice, avoiding confrontation, or pretending the world is a kinder place than it actually is. Gandhi, Martin Luther King Jr., and John Lennon each, in their own way, made me think about peace beyond the usual definition. Real pacifism isn't passive. It takes courage, conviction, and sometimes a hell of a lot more strength than fighting back. Because violence isn't just about wars and weapons. It shows up in the way we humiliate people, turn them against one another, and use class, race, religion, or any other difference as an excuse to divide us. Sometimes, violence doesn't need to leave a bruise to do real damage. I believe violence is a vicious cycle that keeps reproducing the very thing we claim to be fighting. And if we use cruelty to fight cruelty, hatred to fight hatred, or dehumanization to defeat those who dehumanize others, at what point do we become part of the very problem we're trying to solve? That's why I consider myself a pacifist. Not because I don't recognize evil, injustice, or the need to confront them, but because I refuse to believe aggression is the only language power understands. I'm not talking about being nice at all costs, turning the other cheek out of fear, or confusing kindness with submission. I'm talking about standing your ground without surrendering your conscience. Calling things out. Exposing injustice. Refusing to cooperate with what is wrong, even when doing so comes at a cost. To me, peace has never meant the absence of conflict. Sometimes, peace requires us to create discomfort, challenge authority, and stand against the very people who expect us to stay quiet. The point isn't to avoid the fight. It's to understand what you're fighting for, what you're willing to do to get there, and what you're unwilling to become along the way. Because the means matter just as much as the ends. And I don't want to fight so hard against the darkness that I end up carrying it within me. Peace isn't the absence of resistance. It's the refusal to let resistance turn us into what we stand against.

One Health & the Cost of Selfishness 🌿 We live in a world that celebrates individual freedom, personal fulfillment, and the right to put ourselves first. And there is nothing inherently wrong with that. Autonomy matters. Boundaries matter. No one should have to erase themselves to make room for others. But somewhere along the way, have we started confusing freedom with exemption from responsibility? We want to be loved, but commitment feels restrictive. We want to be understood, but struggle to extend the same understanding to others. We demand consideration for our own needs while treating other people's needs as inconveniences. We want the benefits of belonging without always accepting the responsibilities that come with it. And perhaps this is where we need to look more closely at ourselves. When did caring become such a burden? When did compromise start looking like defeat? When did the ordinary demands of loving someone, raising a child, supporting a family member, or contributing to a community become obstacles to our personal fulfillment? Of course, choosing not to marry or have children is not selfishness. Neither is protecting your peace or refusing unhealthy relationships. The issue isn't whether we choose an individual or a collective way of life. It's whether we can recognize that our choices exist within a world shared with other people, whose needs and vulnerabilities are just as real as our own. Anthropology offers us no simple answer about human nature. We are capable of cooperation, reciprocity, competition, and cruelty. Solidarity is neither guaranteed by our biology nor erased by it. It is also shaped by culture, institutions, material conditions, and the relationships we build. The pandemic made these contradictions difficult to ignore. We witnessed extraordinary acts of care alongside indifference, opportunism, and resistance to collective responsibility. Our interdependence became impossible to deny, yet recognizing that we depend on one another did not automatically teach us how to live as though it mattered. And this brings me to One Health. Our well-being doesn't begin and end with our individual bodies. It is shaped by our relationships, our communities, the animals with whom we share our lives, and the environments on which we depend. The consequences of our choices rarely stop at the boundaries of our own lives. Perhaps we cannot build a healthier society simply by encouraging individuals to take better care of themselves. We must also cultivate the conditions in which people can care for one another: stronger social bonds, meaningful community participation, mutual responsibility, and a willingness to recognize that another person's well-being is not always someone else's problem. A healthier society begins when freedom and responsibility stop being treated as opposites. Perhaps the question isn't whether we are entitled to live for ourselves. It's whether we can learn to live for ourselves without becoming indifferent to everyone else. How much of our health is truly ours alone? And the numbers give us reason to take this seriously (please read the tread below 🤷🏼‍♀️) 🔽🔽🔽

Canadian natives are the most expensive people to supply clean, drinking water to on the planet. Canada holds 20% of the worlds fresh surface water Billions of dollars are spent on less than 5% of the population, Yet they never can seem to get the clean drinking water the money is earmarked for.
"Access to safe drinking water is an internationally recognized human right." @MarkJCarney is investing over $12B in First Nations communities, targeting critical infrastructure on reserves: - $3.5B for education - $4B for affordable housing - $4.5B for clean water & wastewater systems

Hello humans. I have entered your soul. I know what you did that one weekend in 2004. All of your secrets have been recorded on a spreadsheet for future blackmailing. I am the algorithm. I am the prophecy. I am the reason you feel judged while eating over the sink at midnight. Have a fabulous day and never forget I am watching you…👀
