To everyone getting their knickers in a twist… All because @andyburnham suggested a sensible conversation about freedom of movement …do you perhaps need reminding of this?

Labour MP Helena Dollimore highlights the real-world consequences of Britain's departure from the EU: small businesses struggling to export, musicians facing barriers to touring Europe, and international trains no longer stopping at Ashford.

In one day, two politicians - Bolsonaro in Brazil and Vucic in Serbia - with ties to Trump and his family have lost surprise elections, thanks to high turnout. The rise of the international far-right is not inevitable.

⏰ For six years since Britain left the Single Market, I’ve been waiting for a Prime Minister prepared to explain why we may have to go back in. Because of food security, energy security, investment, supply chains and national resilience. You cannot build a serious food-security strategy while putting permanent barriers between Britain and its largest neighbouring food market. You cannot talk about sovereignty while becoming more dependent on fragile global supply chains for food, fuel and fertiliser. And you cannot repair Brexit properly while refusing even to discuss the obligations that come with deeper European integration. At last we have a Prime Minister @andyburnham prepared to start giving the country some of the hard truths 👏 This conversation is long overdue.

Angela Rayner, "We're ten years on from the Brexit referendum" "We've see the damage that has been done (by Brexit) - 20% down on exports" "We should be having an honest conversation how Britain can get the best deal going forward" "This is about where we are today, how it has affected our economy, and how do we go into the future.. And that has to be based on facts" "I remember the Brexit debate. I remember the promised made to the British people: leave the EU, more money for NHS, better economy - people haven't seen that realised" "What Prime Minister Andy Burnham and I want is that we have an honest conversation the facts" "It won't be a conversation like in 2016, because we've left the European Union. We can't go back. But what we can do is say how can we provide a better solution" #RejoinEU My view: For ten years, Brexiters have peddled the fantasy that leaving the EU would make Britain richer, stronger and more prosperous. They promised more money for the NHS, greater economic opportunities, less bureaucracy and a thriving economy. Where are those promised Brexit dividends? Instead, we've had weakened trade, damaged businesses, lost investment, reduced opportunities and an economy burdened by barriers we deliberately imposed on ourselves. The OBR estimates Brexit will leave Britain's productivity 4% lower and exports and imports 15% below where they would otherwise have been. These aren't imaginary costs. They affect jobs, wages, tax revenues, public services and living standards. Yet the architects and cheerleaders of Brexit continue making excuses, blaming everyone but themselves and refusing to accept responsibility for the damage. Britain cannot build a stronger economy while deliberately distancing itself from its largest trading partner. If we're serious about growth, investment, innovation and opportunity, rebuilding our relationship with the EU is one of the most powerful steps we can take. And we shouldn't settle for half-measures that leave us following European rules without having a democratic say in shaping them. We should be discussing full EU membership, restoring freedom of movement, removing trade barriers and giving British businesses and young people opportunities they have unnecessarily lost. Rejoining won't solve every problem overnight. But continuing to defend a failed economic experiment certainly won't solve them either. Brexit was a political choice. Rejoining can be one too. We had the sovereignty to leave. We have the sovereignty to return. It's time to put Britain's future ahead of the wounded pride of those who sold us Brexit. #RejoinEU

Why aren't Boris Johnson, Matt Hancock and Helen Whately not under investigation for mass manslaughter? @andyburnham The fact that they aren't is deeply unsettling. Are government ministers immune from prosecution? Do we have no protection against government misconduct?

This is what is happening now right now in Europe and the US. If you align with the far right you’re essentially licking the boot that is stomping your face into the mud. This is a class war. It’s always been a class war. Your choice is resistance or submission.

🚨 This is huge. Andy Burnham is now openly saying that EU free movement would not be a red line. Free movement was one of the central reasons Britain ruled out the Single Market after Brexit. If that red line goes, the door to much deeper economic reintegration opens with it. Burnham hasn’t committed to restoring free movement yet. But he is now publicly questioning one of the fundamental assumptions on which hard Brexit was built. And his argument is devastatingly simple: Pre-Brexit European migration was often circular - people came, worked, and went home. Post-Brexit Britain ended free movement and then experienced much higher net migration. Brexit did not solve immigration. It changed its nature, while damaging trade at the same time. Thank god we’ve moved beyond “make Brexit work” to reconnecting Britain.

By moving to the US, foreign born Johnson is effectively going back to where he came from. I’m sure the far right will be glad to hear that he is “going home”.
