For those of you wondering if you should upgrade to the unified X subscription.
Let me save you some time.
Premium+ on X was $395 if you bought the whole year at once.
The new unified plan is $300 for the same tier.
That's a ~24% discount.
And that's if you paid directly via Stripe. If you bought through Google/Apple stores, the discount is 40%!
You get a prorated refund instantly, even if you bought a full year.
There's literally nothing to think about.

Wow - super refreshing to read a REAL HONEST non-paid review for once. Amazing write-up and really points out the good, the bad, and the ugly. If you pre-ordered, read this and think hard if you want to spend the money for the first gen iteration. xitter.cf/gruber/status/21130436…
It's been a lot of fun trying the Duo out for a week, but it feels like I've gotten to use an extraordinarily polished prototype — not a finished product that I'd want to buy and carry.

I’m honestly just a frustrated Apple fanboy.
I was here for Obj-C and MRC AND UIKit from the very beginning (when we had to draw labels by hand so that UITableView didn’t stutter).
Things got way better and for the past 8-10 years have gotten WORSE.
Someone needs to say something.

“Slow path” here means “you may be accidentally misusing ForEach” and we are letting you know so you can adjust your code. This great talk from WWDC 2023 explains this: developer.apple.com/videos/p…

I don't mean to put David on the spot, I have enormous respect for people who work at Apple.
But I do mean to put SwiftUI on the spot. The fact that there's even a "slow path" in List or LazyVStack is mind blowing. Practically unbelievable.
The fix in the agentic era seems to be: don't use SwiftUI.
Perf tip: In SwiftUI's lazy containers (List, LazyVStack) each ForEach element should return a constant number of views. An AnyView or if inside the closure (0 or 1 views) hits a slow path.
Fix: filter your data upfront. Debug: -LogForEachSlowPath YES

Me: *asks Siri a question because I'm driving and can't search*
Siri: I found the answer and I'll tell you when you're not driving
Me:
Apple just called me about Siri.
They do listen.
Hopefully, we can sort out some of these issues. 🙏
Apple is a LITTLE out of touch with the state of Siri.
Siri is just plain terrible.
My wife refuses to use it.
I keep trying it as a "lunatic fringe" AI fantatic and it keeps letting me down.
Simple things like setting a timer, checking in on that timer, are just plain broken.
You've got to test the software.
Siri is still terrible, even with Siri AI, it has a new set of problems that make it just plain dumb, slow, and frustrating to use.

SwiftUI vs. UIKit 🏆
ROUND 3
Build a native version of the chat screen in Campfire. One prompt: SwiftUI got Apple's Xcode 27 skills, UIKit got ones I wrote.
This time, agents have an additional +3 hours to optimize their build.
Winner is UIKit again!
SwiftUI did win on jumping to message 2,500 by 13ms. It is still slower at startup by 39% and peak memory is still almost double (44.4MB vs. 77.2MB) which is mind blowing... consider this is only _one_ screen!
What would you like to see next? Some suggestions were @twannl skills, ObjC++, and AppKit. I'm personally super interested in AppKit, but we'll see!

Yes!
The “asking me what I said and giving options and then getting stuck in a circle doing it over and over cause it can’t understand me” issue needs to be fixed. Older version got it right every time.
