I may be extremely critical of the US administration and the way the country is governed, but this takes nothing away from the friendship, respect and deep admiration I have for the American people. On this September 11, we must never forget the thousands of victims of this atrocity, their families, and all those whose lives were forever changed that day.
Beyond the United States, the attacks also struck the Western world, and with it the values, history and civilisation that we share. They would lead, for the first time in NATO’s history, to the invocation of Article 5, declaring the attack against the United States an attack against all Allies.
