Really chuffed with the penny. Didn't realise until I'd straightened it (pretty sure it was agricultural damage) Silver penny of Edward III, Florin coinage, 1344-1351, mint of Reading. (1st of that mint for me) Note the Scallop in one of the quarter on the reverse.

Coining die for a Scottish bawbee of Charles II, dated 1679. Dies were normally destroyed for security reasons. This one was seized from the Scottish mint due to a corruption scandal, thereby ensuring its survival. From @NtlMuseumsScot’s collection #ScottishHistory #Numismatics

Amazingly, you can read about the spread of Viking-Age markets and market-style economics from southern Scandinavian sites like this to the Insular Scandinavian world of Ireland and Britain! (I can vouch for the author)
Very exciting possible (almost probable) discovery of a previously unknown Viking-Age market in Utstein on Klosterøy, 🇳🇴. Evidence to date: coins, trade weights, GPR suggestions of pit-house and pier/boathouse structures similar to Kaupang. @ArkmuseumUiS partner.sciencenorway.no/arc…

Found mid January this year, what on the outside looks to be a tatty hammered coin, but is in fact an extremely rare halfpenny of Edward IV, 2nd reign. Minted in Durham, under Bishop Dudley. Dating to c. AD 1473-1483. North vol II. No. 1699

For #FindsFriday - the astonishing sight of the imprint of Carolingian coins in the leather pouch which housed part of the late 9th-century Roswinkel hoard. In the @DrentsMuseum in Assen: 📷my own.

This beautiful seal bag, embroidered with the Royal Arms of England, was made in 1280 to protect the wax seal attached to a royal charter from the reign of Edward I. Both the charter and the seal bag survive in our archive collection. #ManuscriptMonday

Gold laurel of James VI & I’s 3rd English coinage (1619-25). It’s the 1st English coin to depict a monarch in the style of a Roman emperor. This would become the norm on English & Scottish coins from the mid-17th century onward. From @hunterian #Numismatics #SaturdayNightCoinShow

Scottish coining dies for a bawbee (6 pence) and bodle (2 pence) of Charles II. Dies were normally destroyed once they wore out. These were confiscated from the Scottish mint due to a corruption scandal, thereby ensuring their survival. #Numismatics #ScottishHistory

An extremely rare Scottish penny of Malcolm IV (1153-65) is going on display. Very few Malcolm IV coins survive as coins probably continued to be struck in the name of his grandfather, King David I, for much of his reign #ScottishHistory #Numismatics independent.co.uk/news/uk/du…

Have been in touch with Bente Withers regarding this coin found recently, and looks like it will be in his next book. Edward III halfpenny. Obverse 13(g), reverse 12(ix) "There is a lot of mixing of dies at this time, so it is not surprising to see another new combination !"

The magic of Iron Age coins. Here, an enlarged Icenian silver ‘Bury’ unit has been placed to show how the image changes as the coin is turned, a hair curl becomes a second eye. Ashmolean Museum Coins of the Iceni exhibition last year. #FindsFriday

Spotted these two uprooted bollards by London Bridge today. You can clearly see that they are in fact sneakily disguised, recycled, upended cannon barrels!
