Why aren’t either of these players playing for a URC side rather than Griquas in the Currie Cup? Both are in their mid-20s, so surely, if they’re as brilliant as you suggest and would keep Markus out of the Griquas starting line-up, at least one URC franchise would have recognised their talent and snapped them up by now?

as a attack coach , what do you spend your time on?
we saw on one end of scale Glasgow with real classy shapes and patterns. more formal, but humming at the line with tempo.
then Stormers is bit more heads-up. so the coaching go into situational skills. how and where to attack space , what lines to run when a guy carries , the cleaning plan. etc. coaching the fundamentals needed for a more informal style.
something we really saw today from Storms was acceleration into space to draw the outside defender, then the offload to a man hitting the hole. didn’t always work out , but it is some of the most effective coaching of this technique I have seen. very hard to defend when you get it right.

Yes, I do. In Wessels’ case, the footage was inconclusive and testimony played a major role in the decision to ban him. Yet Murphy was clearly seen striking him in the head, had his red card rescinded and was free to play.
In Furlong’s case, there’s footage showing his hand between Coombes’ legs, alongside Coombes’ account that his testicles were grabbed. You can understand why we’re questioning the consistency.

the other thing is , we must remember that a Bok squad is not “Rugby Idols”.
it is not a competition where we gather the best talent in the country together.
It is very specific players, for very specific reasons, hitting specific KPIs and roles, that a coach want for his specific game plan.
you won’t tell a chef to put garlic in his apple pie even if the garlic is really lekker.
regular reminder that dragging the Boks out of their deepest hole and winning a world cup 18 months later , winning a Lions series, winning a second World Cup, etc etc, and being possibly the best selector and developer of talent in world rugby, is still not enough for people to tell you you making a mistake when you release your latest squad
years from now when we all jumping down the throat of whoever the latest coach is , we can look back and at least say “even Rassie did not have enough credit in the bank” 😅
