For those still driving a gas car in Canada, time to wake the hell up. Our Premium Tesla Model 3 was $37,500 before taxes and delivery fee. That is nearly $25k under the average price for a new vehicle. We’ve driven nearly 3,000 km since we got it at the end of June, and over 99% of those I didn’t even have to touch the steering wheel (stats say 98% but the car came with what I think was 40km of manually-driven testing). FSD is free for 3 months due to a friend’s referral. The home charging cost for the 3,000 km travelled was… $37. $15 July, $16 August, $6 September 1-11th. At the current gas price in my region, filling up for 3,000 km is on average $480. That is literally 30% of our car payment after our $8k deposit… This brings down our car payment after gas-savings to $350 a month… So when buying a car in Canada, the question you must ask is: Is there a better gas car than a Premium Tesla Model 3 at $350 a month? The answer is a resounding NO. Then, just go do a free test drive. You’ll ultimately buy one, and you won’t even have to fill any paperwork or go to a dealership. A few tap on your phone and your life is changed.

This is actually, inadvertently, a great example showing how much more dangerous gas vehicles are. Gas cars are 61x more likely to catch fire than EVs. So next time someone says EVs catch fire, show them this clip…

A Tesla can cost you ~70% less than what you spend on fuel in a comparable gas car Internal combustion engines convert only 20-30% of fuel energy to motion, with 70%+ lost as heat. In comparison, EVs convert 85–90% of battery energy into motion, so you need far less energy to go the same distance
This is how electric cars vs gasoline cars look under thermal imaging.

Update- This 10 day old story has finally reached local news media. We have now learned that Waymo was operating unsupervised on the highway without a permit. According to the newscast Atlanta highway testing is currently required to include a driver on board.
Atlanta, GA (accident update). The Sunset Project™️ has located the driver involved in a highway accident with the Waymo. There is no assessment of liability for either party at this time. The video source will not be just closed at this time per request of the driver. This is a developing story that will be updated in the comments. Part 1-

We need to make level 2 charging at home ubiquitous. Easy for single family homes but multi-family needs more push. Developers, builders, and apartment owners (and even businesses) will hopefully see this is the way. Tesla Wall connector enables the owner to set the rate, recovering costs and possibly even generating revenue while the vehicle owner still saves money over gas. Charging at home unlocks the real potential of electric vehicles. Could you imagine if you could only charge your phone at a specific location, would make it pretty annoying? But the fact that it's charged while you sleep and ready to go each morning makes it magical. It really gets next level if you have solar generation and that energy comes from the sun...
Before getting a Tesla charging times was my biggest concern. After owning one for a year, home charging is actually one of the biggest conveniences offered by the platform. Every day you wake up with a full “tank” and go about your business. Average day of driving is ~2 hours of charging. My car is usually parked in my garage for at least 8 hours every night, so it’s not even a factor. Then consider a full charge is ~$10.70 vs ~$75 to fill up my ICE.

Over 600,000 km in a Tesla Model 3 Performance, owned by “Taxi Desio” in Italy—and only €3,500 spent on maintenance. No motor or battery replacements. Just minor parts and the battery cooling pump. Even the brake pads are original thanks to regen braking. This isn’t hype—it’s real long-term electric reliability. #EV #Tesla @elonmusk Well done, @Tesla! @teslaownersSV @teslaeurope

NEWS: Lucid has set a Guinness World Record for the longest drive on a single charge. The Lucid Air Grand Touring drove 749 miles (1,205 kilometers) between St. Moritz and Munich without a single charging stop. It included alpine roads, highways, and secondary roads. It was just a normal Lucid Air Grand Touring (512 mile EPA range) car with no special customizations or anything to it. This beats the previous record of 650 miles.

🙄 People spitting out the same old objections repeatedly gets old. Yes, I’ve used exclusively an EV (a Tesla Model 3 LR AWD) since early 2021. I’ve taken it on epic long road trips. It works great, including in the winter. It heats up faster than any ICE car. 1/2

I believe I have one of the most scenic commutes in the world, especially with Full Self-Driving (FSD). I can sit back and enjoy the ride while my @Tesla Model Y cruises down the highway. People often ask if it's difficult to own a Tesla in rural Alberta. Not at all! My Tesla handles deep snow better than any other vehicle out here, navigates black ice, steers me safely out of danger, and I never worry about range thanks to the ever-growing network of Superchargers. Enjoy this 5-minute clip of my 45-minute commute. #teslalife #Tesla – at Crowsnest Pass, Alberta

Tesla: "Since we've been selling EVs for over a decade, we have a reliable dataset that shows battery degradation over time. We estimate a vehicle reaches end of life after about 200,000 miles of usage in the U.S. and about 150,000 miles in Europe. Even after 200,000 miles of usage, the batteries in Model 3 and Model Y lose only 20% of their capacity on average, regardless of battery chemistry."

I don't think most people understand how quickly @RedwoodMat is growing & how many batteries they're recycling. In 2024 alone, Redwood recycled 20 GWh of batteries—the equivalent of 250,000 EVs. And now they are building recycled battery energy storage systems! Redwood alone represents 90% of all lithium-ion batteries and battery materials recycling in North America.

Our LYRIQ EV lease payment is the same amount I spent on gas in our RAM 1500 commuting 60-75 KM per day with two days being 130KM. At 225K KMs there was upcoming maintenance. Decision was easy. The truck is for work & backcountry camping. Our XT5 v6 = 1,100KM/Tank so highway.

"Imagine if all of the vehicles were magically electric" Reality check: Magic isn't real. Math is. It will take until at least 2050 for the vast majority of existing vehicles to be replaced under this mandate - and that doesn't account for the PHEVs that are still permitted and which won't have the same electricity needs as BEVs.
