Just a personal addendum: Mike was my undergraduate thesis advisor at Princeton. This was a transformative experience. One of the crucial turning points in my life. So, I count myself as a Woodford student (part of the Woodford army, some might say :) ). Then I was fortunate enough to have Mike as a colleague at Columbia for 10 years. On a number of occasions, conversations with Mike were pivotal for my research (e.g., when Emi and I were working on our fiscal stimulus paper). But for me, the Woodford experience started in Econ 420 at Princeton in 1999. This was a small undergraduate class with maybe a dozen students. But among those were four people that would end up tenured at top 10 econ departments. It was a pretty special class! To do good research, one needs to have a few "superpowers" up one's sleeve: things one understands really well and are applicable to lots of issues that come up in one's research. One of the most important "superpowers" that I have as a scholar (to the extent that I have any) is the theoretical ideas about monetary economics that Mike taught me and I studied in his book. They are a constant source of new insight which permeate my research. (For me, they have been especially powerful when mixed with empirical ideas from other fields). I am simply over the moon that Mike has won the Nobel Prize.
There were screams of joy in the Nakamura-Steinsson household this morning when we saw this news!

How wonderful! A Nobel prize for research that has transformed the practice of macro policy in the world. Congratulations to Bob Hall and Mike Woodford. My Ph.D. class at Princeton got the first preview of Mike's 2003 Nobel winning textbook when Mike taught us the unpublished chapters back in 1996. What a privilege!

A happy birthday to peace laureate @MariaRessa, who turns 63 today. Ressa uses journalism to expose abuse of power, use of violence and growing authoritarianism. In 2012, she founded @rapplerdotcom, a digital media company. Both are fearless defenders of the truth.

New feature on current @IndStFB offensive lineman @JusticeMusser as he speaks on life outside of football, as well as his work off the gridiron #MarchOn | #LeaveNoDoubt – at Dresser, IN
Justice Musser grew up in Damascus, a small town in Southwest Virginia with a population of approximately 780 residents. Known as “Trail Town USA” for its Seven Trails, Damascus is home to the well-known "Creeper Trail." In 2018, Justice moved to Bristol, Tennessee, where he attended Tennessee High School and played on the football team. He was then recruited to play for @PrincetonFTBL. While Justice was attending Princeton, his hometown endured devastating flooding caused by Hurricane Helene, which made landfall in September 2022. "Seeing bridges being wiped out, the trail being erased from the side of the mountains, it was honestly heartbreaking,” he said. In July 2025, Justice founded The Ironwood Foundation with the goal of rebuilding the Creeper Trail and revitalizing Appalachia. His passion for his hometown region is deeply ingrained. "Coal miners are in my family and this theme of being resilient, this theme of hard work and having a strong work ethic runs deep within our veins. [My great-grandmother’s] strength and her positivity was something that I will always carry with me throughout my life, and I think that sort of ties back into my love for the area." Justice graduated from Princeton in 2026 with a bachelor of arts in anthropology and a minor in entrepreneurship. He currently attends Indiana State University with plans to attend law school and eventually move back to the Appalachia region to continue to give back to his community. Stand up for students like Justice who are using their college education in service to others: bit.ly/4ycGuUY
