The Cyclopean wall of Rajgir.
Historians put the construction of the gate around 2500 – 2600 years ago. The construction of the wall was initially started by King Bimbisara and later completed by his son King Ajatshatru.
Not a single Chief Minister in Bihar's history has left behind a legacy of work significant enough to deserve a statue in his honour.

My maternal uncle, a proud Marathi, built his manufacturing setup near NH 48 in Pune from scratch over the last 10 years!
He began by hiring only Marathi-speaking folks from Maharashtra, but today 75% of his workers are from other states. He says the local workers didn’t show the work ethic he needed on the factory floor, even after he gave them plenty of chances.
The Marathi folks in his company are mostly in accounting, audit, customer relations and video editing. So his struggle is mainly with the actual manufacturing roles.
Honestly, felt sad hearing it from him😭
A mural by Dhirendra Krishna Deb Barman, painted for the central dome of India House in London (@HCI_London).
It depicts Emperor Ashoka the Great sending his daughter Sanghamitra to Sri Lanka to propagate Buddhism.
It was completed in January 1932.
A democracy with Chinese characteristics would come at a heavy cost for many.
#justsaying
Even The Economist is saying China is *substantially more democratic* than India. Was never convinced by the line that India's not growing like China because India is a "democracy" --truth has always been that India's growth is hampered by a growing democratic deficit that determines policy choices - unlike China.

Prof Harvey Mansfield, American political philosopher, prolific writer, thinker and Professor of Government at Harvard University is an important thinker for Indian intellectuals to engage in.
HIs latest book "The rise and fall of rational control - The history of modern political philosophy' is a distillation of his work over 4 decades.
He traces the evolution of modern political philosophy from the original departure from tradition, honor, virtue, order to politics as the primary means of organizing society.
Mansfield’s use of the term ‘rational control’ refers to the phenomenon of using human reason or pushing the limits of science to not merely contemplate or understand the world, but to actively master and engineer it to meet human needs — thereby linking knowledge with power and wealth.
In Mansfield’s words, “Rational control from its rise is an idea of the application of reason to revolutionize the life of human beings as individuals and in politics in order to liberate them from the unreason of prejudice, tradition and superstition.
This idea was begun and maintained by philosophers and has an internal history of rise and fall from Machiavelli to Nietzsche.”
While tracing the political/ philosophical history of the West, Mansfield discusses each successive thinker’s views on science, natural law, and the delimitations and origins of power — in light of their ideas and influence on rational control.
This is particularly significant for India as we inherit and inhabit this mental and ideological world that shapes our institutions, even today.
@priya_27_ dives deep into the text to give us a fine summary and also put a lens on how it would look different from the perch of Indian Knowledge Systems.
What is rational control, and what can modern Western political philosophy teach us about the foundations of a good society?
Drawing on Harvey Mansfield’s The Rise and Fall of Rational Control, this essay by @priya_27_ traces the evolution of modern political thought and its struggle to recover virtue, morality, and a substantive conception of the good.
It also explores how the Indian Knowledge Systems offer a different understanding of ethical life and political order— one rooted in a living civilisational tradition.

Agnimitra Paul is unnecessarily fueling hatred against Biharis in Bengal. If Rabindra Sarobar is ecologically sensitive lake where even Durga Devi's idols are also not immersed, why is she hell bent on doing Chhath Pooja there?!

He is "environmental" engineer BTW He was the first one who incited the locals. And he is linked to SIFF whose legal advisor Bhanu Tatak has been arrested by the CBI under FSRA. He received 20 lakh funding from Asia Indigenous Network, and other three NGOs based in UK and SEA.
Imagine the kind of hatred Bihar and UP would face if even one such incident occurred in either state.
Yet, every year, annadātās from Punjab and Haryana contribute to severe air pollution across North India, exposing millions of people to serious health risks.
These annadātās live off government support through MSP, yet the public rarely questions them.
Instead of holding these annadātās responsible, ppl keep shifting the blame to political parties.
Delhi reels under dangerously high AQI levels as the national capital’s air quality worsens — the Delhi and Punjab governments trade blame over stubble burning and the mounting pollution crisis.

Hindi belt is far far more progressive than non-Hindi belt.
> First, the Hindi belt has a substantial record of caste-based representation at the highest executive level.
> Second, Bengal's historical claim to social progressiveness is just propaganda.
>Third, In South, even the Dravidian politics did not translate into a Dalit or Adivasi CM between 1991 and 2026.

Watched the recent video from Katon Moyong. I’ll start by saying he seems interesting - a new, emerging leader who definitely has the bravado and showmanship required for politics. but he sort of lost my trust when he started giving very disingenuous arguments in the video.
I want to go through his claims one by one 🧵
He is articulate, but his reasoning has serious flaw.
He seems to believe that nations operate permanently in peacetime mode. That is simply not how international relations work. Diplomacy derives much of its effectiveness from credible deterrence. You cannot expect diplomacy to succeed if you are unable to prepare for conflict.
He also contradicts himself when he argues that law works only when both parties are equal(his conception of law is also skewed). If that is his premise, then why does he expect China to take India seriously when India is not adequately prepared for the worst eventualities?

🚨Bihar's development story is usually viewed through infrastructure, investment, employment and industrialisation.
But its scientific research and innovation ecosystem deserves attention too.
In FY2024, Bihar recorded 4,598 research publications and 668 patent applications. Its reported science and technology ecosystem also includes 575 deep-tech startups.
How strong is this ecosystem, and how effectively is research translating into economic activity?
A closer look at the data. 🧵

A proud moment for India's cultural and literary heritage! ✨
The Rājataraṅgiṇī of Kalhaṇa (a 12th-century chronicle of Kashmir), the Mahābhārata (a perennial epic of South Asia) and the Arthaśāstra of Kauṭilya (a text on governance and statecraft) have been inscribed on the prestigious @UNESCO’s Memory of the World Committee for Asia and the Pacific (MOWCAP) Regional Register.
This recognition celebrates India's rich legacy of historical documentation, literary excellence, philosophical knowledge traditions that continue to inspire generations across the world.

💯!
I do, however, have reservations about those who speak endlessly about protecting their culture and traditions but rarely discuss cultural refinement.
They want to protect everything, even its imperfections.
