My first ever interactive and that too no D3, who would have thought! Some QGIS, Illustrator and Svelte and hell lotta debugging via Claude later, my first interactive for @down2earthindia is up!
Washed Away! A new AI-powered global flood dataset by @MSFTResearch shows India as the world’s biggest hotspot. One in every 10 sq km of the country has been underwater at least once in the past decade. From Punjab’s paddy fields to Bihar’s devastating river floods, the interactive map reveals startling patterns of inundation. Globally, flood-prone land is 71 per cent higher than earlier estimates, with a steady 5 per cent rise in flood extent every year. Scroll through the map and story by @down2earthindia's @PulahaRoy and @NanditaBanerji_ to see what’s at stake: downtoearth.org.in/washed_aw… Sharing a quick screengrab tutorial below to help you navigate the page 👇

FC Augsburg believes it's quite terrible to have 17 other Bundesliga clubs sitting on a bunch of the league's limited supply of points.
OpenAI CEO Sam Altman believes people owning RAM is wasteful, and that it belongs in data centers instead. "From a global allocation perspective, actually, it’s quite terrible to have everyone have a bunch of the world’s limited supply of DRAM sitting in their own computer."

🚨The SIR has repeatedly been sold as an exercise to identify “illegal foreigners”. Data from at least six states shows only 1,600 found in a combined electorate of over 98 million. Also no standardised SOPs were issued which means several states didn’t even collect this data. @htTweets

Enjoy Mikel Arteta’s Arsenal. We were the laughing stock of football. Turned us into English Champions. Respected in Europe. Our fanbase has not had it this good since Prime Wenger. No one will ever stop me from fully backing Mikel. Gaffer!!!!! Hope the good times last forever.

Civilian protests across India have been increasingly met with police intervention — and allegations of excessive force have taken center stage. Reuters examined the guidelines and recent protest data to explore where these possible excesses against demonstrators are happening and why reut.rs/47jBORq

#HTImmersive : A commercial aircraft’s cockpit door is armoured, its cabin doors are sealed by air pressure, and its slides inflate in seconds. Most of the safeguards were introduced after an accident or a disaster. In this immersive, HT looks at the engineering meant to keep an airliner safe in flight. hindustantimes.com/specials/…

Think deeper - If someone has access to centralised, booth-level data on electors from the SIR, Census data, and Form 20 results in Excel or CSV format, how easy would it be to use these datasets to design a delimitation exercise that serves their own interests?

This is probably why Cong is little better than BJP. But dictatorial governance will not be tolerated by the younger lot unlike us.
The handling of the protestors yesterday by Bengaluru Police will be reviewed. The right to peaceful protest is fundamental to our democracy. It must be respected, protected and never suppressed. I have issued instructions to the police to ensure that no peaceful demonstration is disrupted. I also appeal to all protesters to cooperate with the police and keep the authorities informed, so that their safety and the rights of others are protected as well. The police are here to protect your rights, not to stand in the way of your voice. Our responsibility is not merely to maintain law and order, but to create an environment where every citizen can express dissent freely, peacefully and without fear. In a democracy, peaceful dissent is not a threat to law and order. It is a right that law and order must protect.

One man saw us in the gutter, the laughing stock of the league and said I am willing to take on the criticism, hate and abuse to connect us back to the club we love. First managerial role, made us Champions of England and still not satisfied. To the very end Mikel Arteta.

1/ We recently ran an immersive story, or what some call "scrollytelling", on the glacier collapse in Nepal that set off deadly floods. It's the best way to explain why we started SimplyPut, our explainers section, and an immersives IP at HT. Thread: hindustantimes.com/specials/…

It’s been less than a month since I joined @htTweets immersive desk and we have churned out four interactives (not bad), made with lot of love and care. We are constantly trying to evolve and integrate best storytelling techniques, so if you have any suggestions, let us know!

Declan Rice knew exactly what he was doing. 🧠 He looked at the guaranteed, plastic success at City and chose the real project instead. He understands that lifting just one properly earned trophy at the Emirates is worth a hundred bought titles over there. No amount of financial doping could buy his integrity. What a player, what a mentality! 👊

add removing feudal mindset from the rural belt, which China successfully got rid of by the 1970s, but most self proclaimed defenders of democracy, like this guy, won’t mention that.
India can become China very quickly. By suppressing basic freedoms, removing labor laws, outlawing organized labor, making dissent illegal, clearing cities of poor people, and putting certain communities in camps. But guess which Lalanand Chume will be outraged then.

🎥 A Himalayan glacier collapse near the Nepal-China border in late August triggered a devastating surge of ice, mud and water, giving people downstream little time to respond. HT’s interactive traces the deadly flood’s path through Nepal’s valleys. 🔗 Read the full story for a detailed look at how the disaster unfolded: hindustantimes.com/specials/… @LamaPrawesh ✍🏻 Graphic & web development: @PulahaRoy
