Adam and Helen were devoted parents, and Emma, 4, and Charlie, 2, were the light of their lives. Helen and Adam were the love affair that will last forever. Their warmth, generosity and gift for making people feel welcome touched so many lives. Their loss will be felt deeply by all those who loved them and who they loved in return. Charmi and Rachel were full of joy and adventure. They loved their people fiercely, fully and without hesitation. From the moment they met, they were all in on each other and the life they were building. They are deeply loved, and we will miss them endlessly. Writing this in my personal capacity, but I have been flying these types of aircraft for more than 20 years, with over 8,000 hours, and have reasonable familiarity with how the charter world operates. I feel compelled to post after seeing commentary about the Lear 60 crash, from missile strikes to DEI to critiquing this poor woman’s final radio calls. That last part is what I find most troubling. She was the second-in-command (SIC), and while she was empowered to point out mistakes as part of good crew resource management, she was doing her job, communicating with ATC right to the end in a terrifying situation. She likely knew before many of those calls that she was going to die. I have heard final calls from friends, from military pilots with thousands of hours in fighter aircraft, and they are just as heartbreaking because they know the end is approaching. I understand the public interest given the footage and audio. But you do not know the aircraft’s maintenance history, whether there was a structural failure, if any failure was induced by turbulence, overspeed, or overcontrol, or everything happening in that cockpit. I am sure weather will be part of the investigation, but beyond that, it is speculation. The charter industry routinely hires commercial pilots very early in their careers to gain experience alongside an ATP-qualified captain before they move up to the airlines. She would still have the appropriate training, qualifications, and checkouts by an FAA examiner or designee. Let people investigate, learn, and share the facts. Be respectful to those who perished and the families who carry their memories. God bless them and their loved ones.

According to reporting from the New York Post, the co-pilot of the private learjet that crashed yesterday in Florida has been identified as a 20-year-old Nathalia Gadelha. The article stated that Gadelha was aboard a Learjet 60 that departed Austin, Texas, bound for the Bahamas when it entered a steep, high-speed descent and crashed in a residential area of Greenacres in Palm Beach County. All nine people on board were killed. U.S. Secretary of Transportation Sean Duffy also publicly confirmed the nine fatalities. Flight-tracking data and air-traffic-control recordings show the crew reported icing, turbulence, and precipitation before declaring an emergency. According to the Post, Gadelha’s mother, Camila, and her stepfather confirmed to the newspaper that she was the co-pilot. The outlet further reported that she had grown up in Palm Beach County and previously received local media attention. In October 2023, while a senior at West Boca Raton High School, she earned her private pilot’s license through the School District of Palm Beach County’s Aviation Academy before obtaining a driver’s license. According to CBS12 there was documented evidence that she had accumulated approximately 88 hours of flight time, trained in part with her father, and expressed the goal of becoming a commercial airline pilot. Later social-media activity and family posts indicated she had progressed to commercial, multi-engine, instrument, and instructor ratings and had flown business jets, including the Learjet 60 type. At the time of publication, neither the NTSB nor the FAA had released the names of those on board, which is consistent with standard practice in the immediate aftermath of a fatal aviation accident while identification and next-of-kin notification processes continue.
