I very much hope the #ConversionBill committee is genuinely listening, as @ABarrosCurtis indicates in this dilatory bit of PR. There's a lot of expertise amongst critics of the Bill & this is not our first rodeo. We won't see rights destroyed for the sake of performative politics
A joint committee made up of members of the House of Lords and House of Commons has been set up to consider the government’s Draft Conversion Practices Bill. The committee seeks views on how the draft bill could be improved. Get involved by 16 November ⬇️ committees.parliament.uk/com…

This is a very important piece by Dr Az Hakeem, a psychiatrist with years of experience treating gender-distressed young people and detransitioners. It's essential for the #ConversionBill committee to read it and to hear evidence directly from him. archive.ph/7CR00

A new law that risks criminalising parents who question whether their children are trans must be scrapped, MPs, peers and experts have demanded. ‘Gender’, as opposed to sex, is an anti-scientific myth. If a child with a penis announces that he is really a girl, parents and teachers have a positive duty to educate him in the scientific truth that he is a boy. Of course no parent should use physical or psychological abuse for any reason. But if anyone should be prosecuted it is those who abuse their duty of care by encouraging children in the anti-scientific delusion that they can choose their own sex. telegraph.co.uk/politics/202…

The ‘Trans-Inclusive’ Conversion Practices Bill is "ideological, authoritarian and unworkable.” If enacted, the Bill will criminalise parents who seek, with the best of intentions, to dissuade children from ‘transitioning’. 👇

"Strangulation can lead to brain damage, physical disability, stroke, pregnancy loss, and death... A woman can die from a strangulation event up to one year after the event." Ladies, stop putting yourself in harm's way just to appease men.
Replying to @latsot
I do strangulation exams as part of my job. I have taken extensive training in strangulation and am qualified to testify as an expert in strangulation cases. The general public has no idea how bad this epidemic has become, how many women and girls this is happening to, or how dangerous this is. I share facts about it sometimes like men who strangle women are twice as likely to be involved in a mass shooting or to kill a cop. Women who are strangled by their partners are 750% more likely to be killed by that partner. I tell people that death by strangulation can occur in just minutes, under a minute if you hit the right nerve bundles that lead to certain arrhythmias. I also tell them that a woman can die from a strangulation event up to one year after the event and that a pregnant woman who has been strangled is at high risk of pregnancy loss for weeks after the strangulation event. Strangulation can lead to brain damage, physical disability, stroke, pregnancy loss, and death. I tell people that there is no safe way to strangle and that nobody has the ability to consent to being murdered, and consent is not an excuse for murder, if someone were to consent to this it is incumbent on the would be murderer to use self discipline and restraint, because a person’s “consent” to being murdered is not going to be recognized by any court as a legitimate excuse. Nobody can consent to being killed. When I tell people these things, a very few are appreciative, mostly women, some are interested, men and women, and some attack me for being stupid and not knowing what I am talking about, apparently days of professional training and hundreds of exams performed mean nothing to the “experts” of X. Those that attack are mostly men. Some argue with me about dumb things, like my insistence to call strangulation what it is. Strangulation is not choking, choking is not strangulation, these are two different types of ways to block an airway but they are not the same. That is what people argue with me about the most. They insist on using incorrect language and then provide me with a weak google link picture of a choke hold to try to prove it’s the same. So then it becomes me explaining that a choke hold is called a chokehold but it is not choking it is strangulation and that blows their minds and I am met with silence or swears. This is an incredibly important issue that needs to be discussed but it is very contentious and the defenders of strangulation can turn into rabid dogs very quickly. Anyway, I just wanted to tell you that I really appreciate the effort you are taking here, that you are raising awareness and that you are using accurate language and data. It’s really important that we change the narrative around this subject. I would like to share this resource with you, I’m not sure if you are aware of them or not, but this was the group that did my training on strangulation. They go all over the US teaching medical professionals and law enforcement about strangulation and they have a ton of information and resources on their website. You might find them useful. Thank you for talking about this. strangulationtraininginstitu…

Sounds like the bill is going to be a disaster
I want you all to know this. There are 650 MPs in Parliament. Yet the one MP chosen by @UKLabour to Chair the Bill Committee for the controversial, dangerous and dismally bad draft legislation, the Conversion Practices Bill, is Alex Barros-Curtis. Until July 2024, when Alex was given a very safe Labour seat in Cardiff, he was the Head of the Labour Party's Governance and Legal Unit in London. This was a department set up to investigate complaints against members of the Labour Party. Complaints of antisemitism, Islamophobia, abuse, and of course latterly, mostly women holding legally-protected 'Gender Critical' (sex realist) beliefs. Alex oversaw the investigation of hundreds of members who liked or tweeted gender critical or feminist views. I was one of them. He investigated me, as a sitting Labour MP, for 13 months. 13 months to 'investigate' one like of one tweet. I had a great lawyer, one of the names we're all now familiar with, and I had to crowdfund to pay for his (excellent) work. They first tried in 2020. But the screenshots crudely attached to that passive aggressive, threatening-sounding email from LP admin staff were so risible that I replied that it was too ridiculous for me to waste my precious time on. They left it. Years of Starmer bumbling and stuttering through interviews about whether he had spoken to me, whether he supported me, etc followed. My feminist sins continued apace. And then I 'liked' a tweet by my GC comedian friend @Glinner. He had mocked Eddie'Suzy' for comparing his choice to wear traditional women's clothing, fake plastic breasts and nails, to those being persecuted by the Nazis during WWII. I found his sarcasm, as a award-winning comedy writer in the face of such offensive narcissism amusing and so 'liked' it. I found it absurd and obscene that Izzard, an extremely privileged and wealthy man, who openly changed his 'gender' at will, should write himself into history falseley as someone who would have been oppressed due to a circumstance beyond his control. We all know the groups who were tortured, starved and killed... There is obviously more to my story, I will tell it all, it's just one chapter of the years of spiteful abusive and bullying practices meted out to me by the Labour Party managers. Not those who'd achieved office on merit, or even unexpectedly, but those in the club, often having failed to be elected themselves. So Barros-Curtis who we were repeatedly told led 'the many *independent* inquiries into women members and MPs like me, now often stands as a trans-rights activist on the Labour backbenches. He has also been gifted the role of Chair of this Committee and is a huge supporter of this Bill. And I am not a part of the Bill Committee, although plenty of TRA MPs are. Does that sound like the democratic scrutiny of legislation to you?

The Lib Dem’s think female nurses should be forced to change for their shift in front of a man who asked them “when they were going to undress” and wore pants with holes in that “left nothing g to the imagination” Don’t vote for this group of misogynistic cowards @EdDavey
LIB DEM SILENCE: We have made every effort to engage all political parties on the issue of single-sex spaces in the NHS and to ensure they hear directly from female staff affected by the impact of gender identity policies in the workplace. We have met with representatives from the Labour Government, the Conservatives, and Reform. We have also repeatedly reached out to the @LibDems, particularly following their troubling treatment of gender-critical women at their recent conference. From @EdwardJDavey, @timfarron, and @HelenMorganMP, we have received only silence. Given that silence, we hoped the party's spokesperson for women and equalities, Marie Goldman MP, would want to hear the experiences of frontline NHS nurses involved in a landmark legal case. Again, silence. Women who believe that biological sex matters, that truth matters, and that every person deserves dignity and respect are hearing that message loud and clear

On this day in 1957, women's colleges at Oxford were finally accorded equal rights with the men's colleges. Yes, you read that correctly. 1957. First, though, a little history of Oxbridge’s long march (or perhaps that should be “sleepy stroll”) towards equality for women; mainly Ox-, it has to be said, with a dash of -bridge. In 1869, Emily Davies and Barbara Bodichon founded Girton College Cambridge, the first residential university college for women, with just five students. Newnham College followed two year later. Women’s colleges were not recognised by the University of Cambridge, nor were women awarded degrees even though their exams were just as rigorous. Instead, they received a Certificate of Proficiency which makes it sound as though they’d passed a basic cycling road safety test. Oxford lagged behind but Lady Margaret Hall opened in 1878 with nine students followed by Somerville in 1879 with twelve. You know the drill. They were not recognised by the University of Oxford either and they were not awarded degrees despite sitting the same exams as their male peers. Even so, a series of invisible tariffs were imposed that applied only to women. Women students had to be chaperoned if male students were present. They were allowed to sit the notoriously difficult Mathematical Tripos exams at Cambridge but their embarrassingly good results were, erm, glossed over. Philippa Garrett Fawcett, daughter of Millicent, was the first woman to obtain the top score in the Cambridge Mathematical Tripos exams. She knocked spots off the male second place candidate with a score a full 13% higher than his but was not awarded the much prized title of Senior Wrangler. Heaven forfend that a woman should beat a man. He was awarded HER title instead. Philippa was simply described as “above Senior Wrangler”. These days, Parkrun is doing its bit by letting men steal women’s records. Between 1904 and 1907, the Steamboat Ladies (women denied degrees at Oxbridge even though they met all of the requirements) - including Philippa - had to sail to Trinity College Dublin to be awarded an ad eundem degree, an academic degree awarded on the grounds of mutual recognition or equivalence. Trinity expected a handful of women to take up the offer. Over 720 did. On 7 October 1920, there was a step-change. Women could be awarded degrees at Oxford. Cambridge held out until 1928. In 1925, Somerville was granted its charter and the requirement for women to be chaperoned in the presence of male students was abolished but a curfew was put in place instead. You might ask which sensitive souls were these restrictions meant to protect? Well, eleven years earlier, the Head of Somerville had had to write to her female students about “a very tiresome complaint that the men examinees are disturbed by the way our students sit in their tight skirts and show their legs.” I’ve attached an illustration of those short tight skirts so you can see just how easily distracted those poor chaps were. It’s the 1st Rule of Misogyny: Women are responsible for what men do. In 1927, a limitation statute was introduced to limit the admission of those pesky women (by now qualifying for higher education in ever greater numbers) to no more than 840 students - roughly 15% of the undergraduate body. Do you know what that reminds me of? The decision to limit the vote in 1918 to women aged 30 or over who met an additional property qualification. WW1 had just concluded with a terrible loss of life and the government was frightened that female voters would far outnumber male voters if the vote was granted to them on equal terms with men. 21 years later - 1948 - the limitation statute was raised to 970. Probably because WW2 had just concluded with another terrible loss of life and universities were worried about their income. Convince me otherwise. Another nine years went by before the female quota was finally abolished, thirty years after it was first introduced. On 27 April 1948, women were admitted to full membership of the University of Cambridge, and Girton College received the status of a college of the university. 1959 brought another step-change. The five women’s colleges at Oxford (now including St Hilda’s, St Hugh’s and St Anne’s) finally received the same ‘full status’ as the men’s colleges, and their Heads became eligible to become Vice-Chancellor. At long last in 1961, Dame Lucy Sutherland (1903-1980) of Australia became the first woman Pro-Vice-Chancellor. That’s 92 years or about five generations of women at Oxbridge openly disadvantaged on the basis of their sex, but the woman who set the ball rolling was Emily Davies - and that’s where we started. In 1859, she made this vow to her friends, the Garrett sisters: “Women can get nowhere unless they are as well educated as men. I shall open the universities.” She kept her promise. So did they. Elizabeth Garrett Anderson vowed to open the doors for women doctors and Millicent Garrett Fawcett promised to achieve votes for women. Today, 57% of students enrolled in higher education are women but only 17% of vice-chancellors are female and the proportion of male staff on senior higher education contracts is almost three times higher than it is for female staff. Remember that the next time a university pats itself on the back for its commitment to inclusion.

99% of women and girls in Somalia have been mutilated in the following way: the clitoris is cut off, along with the inner labia. Then the inner flesh of the outer labia is removed before both sides are sewn tightly together, leaving a hole no bigger than a matchstick for urine and menses to trickle through. All of this is done in childhood, and without any form of anesthesia whatsoever. Sometimes the little girl is given a scrap of leather or a stick to bite down on. The cutters use old razor blades, or sometimes a piece of broken glass. This is only the beginning of a girl’s pain. Most wedding nights in Somalia are aided by “the little knife” — that is, the new husband slices his bride open so that he can penetrate her now cut and bleeding scar tissue. Some men, however, simply batter their way through, tearing that tiny hole open by sheer force. When a woman goes into labor, she’s cut open more widely, then sewn back up afterwards so that when sex resumes she will have to be cut open yet again. This practice leads to countless deaths from infection and a drastic increase in maternal mortality, but Somali men still refuse to marry uncut women, forcing mothers to have their daughters cut or face social stigma. Uncut girls are seen as dirty; the term for clitoris is a playground taunt in Somalia, and girls who are not cut are usually ostracized by their peers. The Somali government recently debated the legality of this appalling custom, and the parliament largely split along gender lines. Female MPs roundly condemned FGM, while male MPs insisted that having a clitoris made a woman more difficult to penetrate, and quoted the hadith in which Muhammad condoned the practice. These are educated men who nevertheless claim that cutting a girl is necessary in order to control her sexuality, and that an uncut woman will be promiscuous and untrustworthy. In spite of the Somali government’s continued support for FGM, foreign aid continues to flow into Somalia unobstructed. The West should refuse to give the Somali government so much as a single dollar until they outlaw FGM and take positive steps to combat the problem. One tactic that has been highly successful involves showing Somali men a video of a girl being mutilated. Because FGM is seen as women’s business, most men have no idea what it entails. Men who watch this video are horrified, and the most common reaction has been “Not my daughter!” This proves that FGM is not hopelessly entrenched in Somali culture. Western pressure and resources could make an enormous difference in the lives of Somali women and girls, and put a stop to this barbaric practice.

Ladies and gentlemen, this is an MP in Somalia THIS WEEK defending the mutilation of little girls because it benefits men. I am running out of words for the sheer inhumanity of these men. And the female politician laughing behind him should be ashamed. But that would require a conscience. Around 99% of Somali women and girls have undergone #FGM, yet politicians openly defend this horrific abuse. And what do we do? Keep pouring billions into Somalia while pretending it is building a functioning state. Why are British taxpayers funding institutions whose politicians show such contempt for little girls? Not another penny without accountability. I am sick of this madness.

A long shot...Last Wednesday, I left a small grey hardshell suitcase on a train from London St Pancras to Cambridge between 5-6pm The thing in it I'm most upset about losing is a five-year journal in which I've recorded moments with my daughter (now 7) that have made me laugh or smile, and how she's changed. I like to read them back to her so she knows how precious she is. Nothing has turned up through the train companies' lost property systems yet, and I know that may take a while, but I don't want to leave a stone unturned. Any bright ideas? Know this is a long shot. @TLRailUK @GNRailUK
