Rebuilding the Great American Cattle Herd starts with giving ranchers the confidence to grow.
Under @POTUS and @VP, we’re backing independent meat processors to expand local processing, strengthen competition, and open more markets for American ranchers.
Today @VP and @SecRollins announced that ranchers across 40 states are expected to receive $57M through the Meat and Poultry Processing Expansion Program.
Through this funding, @usdaRD will invest across 147 tentative awards to help small and medium-sized independent processors expand capacity, boost market competition, and improve supply chain resiliency.

Just met with the American Sheep Industry Association and ranchers from across the country to hear directly about the pressures facing their livelihoods.
U.S. lamb imports surged nearly 45% between 2020 and 2024, capturing roughly 70% of the American market.
At @USDA, we’re focused on strengthening domestic flocks, expanding grazing opportunities, and helping producers sell more American lamb and wool.

Under President @POTUS, we are FIGHTING New World screwworm head-on — and we are WINNING.
Today in Columbus, New Mexico, I met with ranchers and state leaders and toured the stockyards to discuss our aggressive efforts to STOP this devastating pest before it threatens American livestock.
The Trump Administration’s aggressive response is delivering REAL results:
✅ More than 1.5 BILLION sterile flies released to stop the spread.
✅ Just 56 total cases, with only 5 currently active — compared to more than 90,000 cases in Texas alone during the 1972 outbreak.
✅ Moore Air Base sterile fly facility moving YEARS ahead of schedule to dramatically expand our ability to fight this pest.
These are the results of aggressive action, relentless surveillance, and an Administration committed to protecting American agriculture.
It was great to be in Columbus today as our phased reopening of southern livestock ports continues, with strict safeguards in place to protect American livestock.
But the fight is NOT over.
We will continue using every tool at our disposal to keep New World screwworm OUT of the United States and protect the livelihoods of our American ranchers.
Under President Trump, we are putting RANCHERS FIRST!
Promises Made. Promises Kept.
🇺🇸 On Sept. 4, President Trump President Trump launched a whole-of-government effort to protect & fully support America’s ranchers with two Executive Orders including:
✅ Comprehensive review & upgrade of federal policy
✅ Prep legislative recommendations to delist gray wolves & Mexican wolves
✅ Interior & USDA to update compensation for predator losses
✅ USDA to review country-of-origin labeling for beef
✅ Ensure lower prices for American consumers
These EOs coincided with the introduction of the USDA's Ranchers First Initiative, which focused on:
✅ New Tools to Support Heifer Retention
✅ ECP and Grassland CRP Maximization
✅ Continuing to Revitalize American Local Processing
✅ Prioritizing American Beef in Federal Spending
✅ Supporting Veteran & Beginning Farmers & Ranchers
🇺🇸 These actions are historic, and I'm encouraged by the progress being made in these efforts.
However, as an independent cattle rancher, the rallying cry I've taken repeatedly taken to Washington, D.C. is until we address the elephant in the room, where the Big Four Packers (two foreign owned) controls 82% of the beef supply in a blatant monopoly, the American cattle rancher doesn't stand a fighting chance of surviving, nor do we have the certainty and stability to move forward, rebuilding the nation's cow herd to meet the rising demand for our USA Beef.
So how do we tackle that issue? Ask 100 ranchers, and you'll get 100 different answers.
For me, the solution MUST ALWAYS be through limited government, decreased regulations & burdensome red tape, promoting free market capitalism, increasing true competition, and demanding honest price transparency and discovery in our beef cattle markets.
Along those lines, I am pleased to see this Administration answering the cries of the family beef cattle farms and ranches across the country with this announcement to:
BRING GREATER TRANSPARENCY TO CATTLE MARKET CASH REPORTING
“President Trump tasked our agency with bringing clarity and consistency to cattle markets and protecting rancher viability, and today's action is one of several steps we are taking to deliver on that promise,” said Secretary of Agriculture Brooke Rollins. “Maintaining reliable and transparent price information is critical to a well-functioning cattle market. We are making these changes to address those challenges and make the best use possible of the market information that AMS gathers.”

Relief for America’s farmers!
Last week, @POTUS signed his dyed-diesel Executive Order. Yesterday, @USTreasury provided important clarification on what that action means for farmers:
✅ No federal tax on dyed diesel used on the highway during the relief period
✅ No federal dyed-diesel penalties
✅ No federal on-road dyed-fuel inspections
✅ No new mileage tracking
✅ No additional reporting or recordkeeping just to qualify for relief
For farmers pulling fuel from existing farm tanks during harvest, that means no new Washington paperwork, no tracking every mile, and more flexibility to keep crops moving.

Just yesterday, under my directive, @USDA called on states to review wolf management policies, listen to ranchers, and work with us to address wolf predation following @POTUS’ Executive Order Supporting America’s Ranchers.
For too long, ranchers have watched wolves kill their cattle while facing restrictions on protecting their herds and livelihoods. We’re changing that by working directly with producers and supporting lethal removal when requested by the proper authorities and authorized by law.
