Your worst CMO / head of marketing will often be the big influencer with a huge following.
Most of them have never owned a pipeline, a launch that had to work, or ground a product from 0 to 1.
Ask them to write a positioning doc or build a GTM from scratch and it falls apart.
Hire them for distribution. Just don't hand them the whole marketing function.
