Gene Wolfe talks about this: una de las ideas que se manejan en Death of Doctor Island, con un protagonista que, en realidad, es el secundario de otras historia más grande.

NOSFERATU is close to the Greek word 'nosforos', meaning ‘plague bearer’. In the film the #vampire has his teeth set at the front of his mouth like the plague rats he brings in his wake. Vampirism & plague are symbolically combined in the metaphor of vermin characterised by RATS, themes in the ‘Pied Piper’ and Stoker’s Dracula #31DaysOfHalloween

In 1796, George Washington placed a newspaper advert offering a $10 reward for the return of Ona Judge, an enslaved woman who escaped from his household in Philadelphia. She had served as Martha Washington’s personal maid and later said she fled because she wanted her freedom and had learned she would be given to Martha’s granddaughter, Eliza Parke Custis Law. Two days after her escape, Washington placed a newspaper ad offering a $10 reward for her return. Judge reached Portsmouth, New Hampshire, but Washington continued trying to try to recover her. He used federal officials and local contacts to locate her, and she refused to return unless she was promised eventual freedom. Washington rejected that condition. Another attempt to seize her was made in 1799, but she was warned in time and escaped again. She remained free for the rest of her life.

Gene Wolfe talks about this: Very few seem even to have noticed that although Christ was a “humble carpenter,” the only object we are specifically told he made was not a table or a chair, but a whip.
Was in Manchester Cathedral yesterday and was blown away by just how much -crap- was just everywhere. A gorgeous building completely smothered by unnecessary furniture, information boards, and gaudy exhibitions.

In her introduction to the Book of the New Sun @Ada_Palmer notes that the difference between real life and most science fiction is all the clutter.

Finelli was on another level. Look at this. Can you see the stitching around the buttonholes? The tiny fly on the fabric, the braided cord that looks soft? All marble. I think Bernini did drama, but Finelli did texture. That's why he was so dangerous as a rival. These are Cardinal Scipione Borghese, the patron of Bernini, carved by Bernini's own former assistant, and Michelangelo Buonarroti the Younger, nephew of that Michelangelo. Both in the 1630s, both in Rome. Finelli left Rome for Naples after falling out with Bernini, but this is him at his absolute peak. I find it such a shame we keep seeing the same handful of artists online while someone like Finelli is forgotten. Swipe ——>

I need Melenchon's thoughts on The Left Hand of Darkness and Book of the New Sun before I can fully commit.

I liked "Fifth Head of Cerberus" I recommend the Roy Avers narration audiobooks for Book of the New Sun, excellent listening. Or just reading them is also good, both even!
