I knew both Glen Ford and Bruce Dixon (RIP to both) of Black Agenda Report. Both supported my work during the Obama years. Bruce later criticized ADOS as too nationalist and anti-immigrant, but he respected me enough to CALL me before publishing his critique. That’s what intellectual integrity looked like.
And both Glen and Bruce believed political people actually DID political things. They believed in organizing, building institutions, and confronting power. One of Bruce’s criticisms of ADOS was that he didn’t believe we would ever build real chapters or an organizational infrastructure. He was wrong. We did both. But even his criticism was rooted in the belief that politics demanded more than rhetoric. I hate saying how dead people would respond to anything, but both men’s essays are still available, and I suspect they would have had very little patience for FD Signifier’s milquetoast, sloppy, political commentary masquerading as radical analysis.
So watching FD Signifier bastardize their work on the Black Misleadership Class is astonishing. Glen and Bruce were serious socialist radicals whose critique of capitalism was central to their politics. To watch FD “it’s lit over here” Signifier borrow their language while emptying it of its ideological substance, and then presenting that as some profound political analysis, is an insult to their intellectual legacy.
I’m genuinely floored by it. You don’t get to appropriate the intellectual tradition of people who spent their lives challenging power while reducing politics to commentary, branding, and content creation.
Y’all don’t despise FD enough. If you want to really understand this stuff, read Adolph Reed’s books, starting with “Class Notes”. He actually created the phrase “racial brokerage politics”.
I’m a harsh critic of Booker T Washington, but you can’t criticize him selling out or ‘buying in’ without also seriously interrogating his funding of Black radical journalist T. Thomas Fortune, including secretly helping finance his newspaper, The New York Age.
Go read Glen Ford, Bruce Dixon and then the primary sources. FD Signifier is simply a hack.

People will honestly work to destroy your reputation just so they can steal your work, because destroying Black celebrity worship is what Antonio & I have been doing for a decade.
FD Signifier explains that the point of his video is to cut down on celebrity worship, especially among Black people.
He points to Black celebrities people love without paying attention to their politics.
According to him , It hurts to see where Jasmine Crockett is right now. It hurts to see Jay-Z's views on capitalism. And it hurts to see what Kanye West has become.
His argument is that you can criticize them and still love their art.
Killer Mike, who dissed him in a freestyle, is his example.
He said , people are shocked to learn Mike is still one of his favorite rappers, and part of why he made the video was to reconnect with the music he loved so much.
He even admits he almost feels bad. In the last few months Mike has been doing interviews with prominent Democrats, which FD jokes is his "my bad" moment for Stacey Abrams.
He does credits that shift to people kicking Mike's back, and he gives Mike props for being willing to change.
According to him , Mike putting himself in a position to be criticized shows he isn't too far gone. Many of the Black leaders in that "misleadership" role refuse to be held accountable at all.
He respects Mike for that, and hopes the guy who once said "I'm going to burn this motherf***er down" is still in there.

These are profoundly stupid people. I can’t believe we went from criticizing Obama for symbolism over substance to thanking Trump for statues.

Look at what you Pretendian weirdos did. I try not to hate people, but I honestly hate y’all. I do.
Because reducing the discussion to “we weren’t all slaves” completely misses the point. The issue isn’t whether slavery was the entirety of our history. It’s whether the government has addressed the consequences of slavery, Jim Crow and generations of state-sanctioned discrimination. Do those statues reduce the racial wealth gap? Afford us civil rights protections? Give resources to our communities?
And where’s the “substance over symbolism” in these statues?
This man & his cohorts are fools who I hate being associated with. They embarrass me. Their self esteem is so low that most of them are sticking feathers 🪶 in their hair & anchoring themselves in a history that doesn’t belong to them.
I also blame the creator of Malanoid Nation & Dane Calloway for this nonsense. Clowns 🤡. There will be a harsh consequence for choosing to be led by charlatans & fools. It’s coming.

Running to conservatives w/ xenophobia didn’t build power in Albany: it alienated the Caucus members & leadership.
Treating an empirical framework like an anti-immigrant culture war made your faction a legislative liability that leadership keeps safely quarantined in committee.

And let’s address the spectacle:
Turning state commission hearings into shouting matches where attendees storm out telling folks to "sit down with the clowns" doesn't advance lineage reparations, it turns a serious economic demand into a circus for conservative cable news.

George Takei is remembering his longtime “loyal friend” and “Star Trek” co-star Walter Koenig, who died Sunday in Los Angeles:
“My heart is heavy. Walter Koenig, our Ensign Pavel Chekov, passed away early today. Walter and I met on the bridge of the Enterprise in the 1960s, and we stayed friends for nearly six decades,” the post continued. “When Brad and I married in 2008, Walter stood beside us as our best man. Just last month, on Sept. 14, he turned 90, on the same day Brad and I celebrated our 18th wedding anniversary. I will always treasure that he and I shared that date. Walter was more than Chekov. He was a writer, a teacher, a thoughtful man, and a loyal friend. To the fans who loved him for so many years, thank you. He loved you too. Rest well, my dear friend. Keep navigating a steady course.”

I’ve lost count of how many good people this movement has lost to the viciousness of FBA & their hangers on. Doxxing, harassment, attempts to get people fired, even efforts to have their children taken away. Just the vilest personal attacks imaginable.
And some of y’all are STILL at it, all while bragging about what you’re supposedly “building.”
We should all be open to criticism, even harsh criticism, but you can’t build a movement by destroying the people in it.
