New Year, New Congress, New Office!
I'm excited to welcome our #TX07 neighbors to our new office in Rayburn House Office Building. Come see us!

Our shadow hearing highlighted the continued reckless actions of the Trump administration—a tragic and deeply troubling pattern that has cost innocent people their lives and has severely injured and harmed hundreds of others.
This is not what the American people deserve. It’s not making us safer. We can—and we will—do better.
In Houston and across the state of Texas, we are still heartbroken and grieving the loss of beloved family members and the destruction of communities along the Guadalupe River in the summer of 2025, a disaster made worse by communication gaps and failures.
The Mystic Alerts Act, a small but important way to provide a meaningful response to the devastating floods and to learn from tragedy, is now the law. Nothing can bring back those we lost in the flood, but we owe it to their survivors and to everyone we represent to do all we can to try to prevent another tragedy like it.
I am thankful for @RepPfluger, @RepVeasey, @RepBuddyCarter's partnership in this effort.

Where one rainbow crosswalk was removed, dozens of banners have replaced it. That’s a Houston response to a problem we never should have had to solve.
I was glad to join @PrideHouston in raising new Pride flags in Montrose, which stand as a symbol, a visual reminder of our commitment to our LGBTQI+ neighbors, in #TX07 and beyond.

Trump just waived all of the sanctions on Russia provided for in the Lindsey Graham Sanctioning Russia Act, just as I and others warned he would.
Trump’s latest surrender to Putin again betrays our Ukrainian partners and defies clear congressional intent of legislation designed to punish Russia for its illegal war of aggression.
Trump has proven he will twist this law and abuse the powers it conferred on him, and while he has let the tariff powers lie for the moment, the law as written also empowers Trump to weaponize new trade authorities against our allies and trading partners.
Congress must fix this flawed law to stop Trump from capitulating to Putin and ensure that it truly supports Ukraine.
Trump order just issued from the White House:
“I am hereby waiving the application of such sanctions, restrictions, and duties [on Russia] provided for in the Graham Act.”

Reminder: a court has ruled that the DOJ’s campaign to consolidate sensitive voter data violates voter privacy and illegally intrudes on states’ authority over elections.
That's good news for voters.

Via @AP: The Trump administration asked the U.S. Supreme Court on Wednesday to let it resume building a border wall project through the Big Bend region. The government filed an emergency appeal asking the justices to lift a lower court decision that halted construction. texastribune.org/2026/10/21/…

Groveling before a war criminal is unconscionable.
Putin has masterminded the slaughter of thousands of Ukrainian civilians.
He is not a humanitarian—no amount of shameless flattery will change that.
An investigation by ProPublica found that more than 500 citizens have been caught up in the Trump administration’s immigration operations. to.pbs.org/4i7BPg3

When the governor of Texas forced localities to rip up rainbow crosswalks installed across the state, CEC Vice Chair @RepFletcher wasn’t afraid to call him out for what it was: an attempt to censor communities’ free speech and erase the LGBTQI+ community.

ALT Equality Caucus Vice Chair Lizzie Fletcher has been a vocal critic of anti-equality politicians’ attempts to strongarm and erase the LGBTQI+ community and our symbols. Rep. Fletcher knows the government shouldn’t be policing communities’ speech in order to censor support for the LGBTQI+ community.
My No Presidential Self-Serving Lawsuits Act ensures that no president can use the power of the office to turn the courts and the Treasury into a personal rewards program for political allies—something we've seen this administration attempt multiple times.

The costs of corruption are real—from higher prices to access to health care to public safety. We need a government that puts regular people first, holds powerful interests accountable, and protects our democracy.
I’m proud to have earned an A from Defend The Vote Action Fund for my record of fighting corruption, protecting voting rights, and standing up for the voice and vote of Texans.

In February, I introduced the Freeze ICE Act to institute a hiring freeze at ICE.
We are learning more each day about why we need to pass it as soon as possible. The hiring of untrained, unvetted, and unaccountable ICE agents makes our communities less safe.
Great to celebrate completion of @Port_Houston's segments of Project 11, which widens & deepens the Houston Ship Channel.
I was glad to help secure this funding and to collaborate w/ local partners to cement Houston's leadership in trade & strengthen our country’s supply chain!

Ranking Members @RepGregoryMeeks, @RepAdamSmith and @jahimes issued a joint statement following today's call between President Zelenskyy and a bipartisan group of Members of Congress:
President Trump has used the DOJ to target his critics. It is no accident that this raid came three weeks before an election when @Ilhan will be on the ballot.
I stand with Congresswoman Omar. No president should be allowed to use the power of the federal government to threaten, silence, or intimidate political opponents. cnn.com/2026/10/12/politics/…
People across #TX07 people are afraid to live their lives because of ICE, regardless of their immigration status.
