This is a misreading of what happened at the Harare Magistrates Court today. Marry Mubaiwa, the former wife of Zimbabwe's Vice President, previously known as Marry Chiwenga, was not acquitted. The trial magistrate, Feresi Chakanyuka, was promoted from the Magistrates Court to the High Court in August, where she now sits as a judge. Because of her elevation, she could not continue presiding over the trial, and the State was required to find a new magistrate and start the case afresh. Instead of moving the case forward, the State asked for yet another postponement, telling the court it needed more time to locate witnesses and reissue summonses. Mubaiwa's lawyer, Beatrice Mtetwa, opposed the application on several grounds. She told the court that even before Chakanyuka was elevated, the State had spent 22 months seeking postponements because the complainant was not available, something the defence had objected to throughout. She argued that the State had been given since August, when Chakanyuka was appointed to the High Court, to put its house in order, and had failed to do so. She also reminded the court that the defence had given formal notice that it would oppose any further postponement if the State was not ready for trial by 21 October. Mtetwa further pointed out that although Mubaiwa was arrested in December 2019, the trial only began in February 2023, meaning the total delay in the case now stands at seven years. The magistrate refused to postpone the matter any further, and Mubaiwa was removed from remand. That is all that happened. The charges have not gone away. If the State gets its case in order, it can still reinstate the charge and summon Mubaiwa back to court, although the defence has made it clear that it would challenge any such move. The headlines claiming she was acquitted are therefore wrong. An acquittal comes only through a judgment, and no judgment has been delivered. The trial, which has dragged on for seven years, stalled when the presiding magistrate was promoted, and it has never been concluded. That is the correct position.
Regional Magistrate Musaiona Shortgame has acquitted Mary Mubaiwa of attempting to kill Vice President Constantino Chiwenga by allegedly disconnecting his life support system while he was hospitalised in South Africa. The ruling followed a State application to postpone the trial to November 25 to allow prosecutors more time to engage witnesses. In his ruling, Magistrate Shortgame said Mubaiwa had suffered mental, physical and financial prejudice during the trial, which has dragged on for nearly seven years. Lula da Silva was born into a poor family, rose through the ranks as a trade union leader, and eventually became President of Brazil. His journey is a powerful reminder that humble beginnings do not determine your future. When destiny calls, no obstacle can stand in your way!

Before the first shots of the historic Chinhoyi 7 battle were fired, a brave young girl risked everything to cook, carry intelligence, and shield the vanguard guerrillas who launched the armed struggle. Today, while history loudly celebrates the combatants, Zim's pioneering Chimbwido remains a forgotten, unsung heroine—her monumental contribution buried under decades of national amnesia Watch ZimNews Beat Tv youtube.com/@robertapfumaney… Wed

40 years ago today, Samora Machel, Mozambique’s first president, died in a plane crash in South Africa. According to liberation war veteran Wilfred Mhanda, Machel and ZPRA commander Nikita Mangena trained together in Algeria. Their paths would cross again during Zimbabwe’s liberation struggle. A luta continua!

These guys seem to think they have a monopoly over ZANU-PF. Principles and values matter, and leadership should be guided by the ideals of the party and the liberation struggle. When the time comes to stand by those principles, let us not be driven by anger or personal interests. Instead, let us uphold the values and ideals of the liberation struggle with dignity, discipline, and respect.

Mhofu, I believe that the true value lies in the fact that these conversations are happening internally. Speaking truth to one another is non-negotiable; a principle that echoes the 2018 election promise of servant leadership.

Ridiculing someone's English pronunciation as a second language is not a flex my brother, it's actually exhausting. For context in Shona language, "L" is replaced with "R". It's not a big deal, it's just linguistics. Let's do better.

The guy messed up his opportunity to be President due to arrogance, self-centeredness, not knowing when to peak and a lack of political maturity. He has ruined his chance and it will not come again. He has made too many powerful enemies in his quest to step-over people and using them as stepping stones while pursuing his individual interests without mutual benefit. He will never be President. Here is the thing I do not think there is anything wrong with him wanting to become President In fact i would support it. What i refuse to support is the disrespect to our leaders & impatients Money will always bow to power on any given day Your turn was to come wani ?
