Zach Braff reveals Bill Lawrence’s sneaky trick for directing actors without telling them how to deliver a line. “Bill pretends to remember how an actor delivered a line at the table read, then repeats it exactly how he wants it.” It works because actors fall for it. “Because actors are so egotistical, they go, ‘Oh yeah, that’s good. I should do it that way!’ Meanwhile, they never said it like that.” Braff even fell for it himself, despite there being no table read. “I was like, ‘Wait, did we even have a table read for this episode?’” 😂
