Asian-Americans in Harvard’s Incoming Class More Than Double, to 43.2 Percent Newly released data on the Harvard College class of 2030 say the class is 43.2 percent Asian-American, a record high and more than double the level when Students for Fair Admissions first sued Harvard alleging racial discrimination in admissions. The U.S. Supreme Court ruled in 2023 that Harvard was unlawfully using race as a factor in admissions. Since then, the numbers of Hispanic and black students in the incoming Harvard classes have dipped, while the numbers of Asian-Americans have soared.

Glenna did an unusual thing that people typically don't do: she checked a citation in a law review article to see whether the citation said what the authors claimed it did. She found that the citation said the opposite of what the authors claimed it did. She then asked the editor of the law review for a correction. The editor did not reply to the request. She then asked the authors for comment on the incorrect citation. The authors acknowledged that the citation was erroneous and regretted the error. The authors then insisted that the citation did not matter to their actual argument because nothing in their argument depended on the citation being right. Glenna then wrote a post explaining why the erroneous citation was in fact important to their actual argument, and why the erroneous citation also exposed a wider ignorance of the subject on which the authors were writing. (She claims, convincingly, that it's important to know what sex is in order to understand what sex discrimination is, and that being able to define what sex is is an inextricable aspect of knowing what sex is.) I consulted with some lawyer friends in a chat group who helpfully explained to me that no one ever reads footnotes, no one checks the underlying references, and no one cares if they are correct or not because law review articles like the one Murray and Shaw published are merely political advocacy masquerading as legal scholarship that no one reads, and therefore not to expect the Supreme Court Review to issue a correction for a citation that the authors are on the record admitting was erroneous. Do I have all that right, @williambaude?

A big difference between 2024 and 2026 is that Charlie Kirk isn’t running a turnout machine. Curious what difference that will make.

Was it Sir Mix-a-Lot?
Around 1500, Hieronymus Bosch painted sheet music on a sinner's bare butt in hell. 500 years later, someone transcribed and performed it. Now you can hear the original butt song from hell.

Eric Hoffer wrote this article about Israel almost 60 years go. It reads like it was written yesterday. "The Jews are a peculiar people: things permitted to other nations are forbidden to the Jews. Other nations drive out thousands, even millions of people and there is no refugee problem. Russia did it, Poland and Czechoslovakia did it, Turkey threw out a million Greeks, and Algeria a million Frenchmen. Indonesia threw out heaven knows how many Chinese-and no one says a word about refugees. But in the case of Israel the displaced Arabs have become eternal refugees. Everyone insists that Israel must take back every single Arab. Arnold Toynbee calls the displacement of the Arabs an atrocity greater than any committed by the Nazis. Other nations when victorious on the battlefield dictate peace terms. But when Israel is victorious it must sue for peace. Everyone expects the Jews to be the only real Christians in this world. Other nations when they are defeated survive and recover but should Israel be defeated it would be destroyed. Had Nasser triumphed last June he would have wiped Israel off the map, and no one would have lifted a finger to save the Jews. No commitment to the Jews by any government, including our own, is worth the paper it is written on. There is a cry of outrage all over the world when people die in Vietnam or when two Negroes are executed in Rhodesia. But when Hitler slaughtered Jews no one remonstrated with him. The Swedes, who are ready to break of diplomatic relations with America because of what we do in Vietnam, did not let out a peep when Hitler was slaughtering Jews. They sent Hitler choice iron ore, and ball bearings, and serviced his troop trains to Norway. The Jews are alone in the world. If Israel survives, it will be solely because of Jewish efforts. And Jewish resources. Yet at this moment Israel is our only reliable and unconditional ally. We can rely more on Israel than Israel can rely on us. And one has only to imagine what would have happened last summer had the Arabs and their Russian backers won the war to realize how vital the survival of Israel is to America and the West in general. I have a premonition that will not leave me; as it goes with Israel so will it go with all of us. Should Israel perish the holocaust will be upon us."

Also Jews historically were the down group/ dhimmis. Former up groups take it as a personal insult when that changes.
The Palestinians want to kill Jews because of deranged religious views that killing Jews is good. The idea that it’s about “colonialism” or something is the West trying to put things in terms it can understand because they can’t deal with the simplicity of evil.

I kind of read this story as a sign the Trump Era is drawing down. The "vibe shift" never really happened. Conservatives don't want to talk about Trump and don't know what comes next, so we're back to the Tan Suit Controversy except somehow even dumber.

I also suggest we're overdue for a political realignment like the early 1990s when Boomers Bill Clinton and Newt Gingrich picked the lock Republicans had on the presidency and Democrats had on the House. Who'll do it? Link: washingtonexaminer.com/opini…

She’s a Model First Lady
Trump turns to Melania and asks whether she wants to get more involved as he publicly praises her work on ceasefire efforts in Ukraine. "Now she got a ceasefire," the president tells reporters, saying the agreement concerns children and elderly people. The first lady says a ceasefire is scheduled to begin October 27 and welcomes the Pope's support while expressing hope that everything proceeds as planned.

These are, as far as I can tell all assertions on both sides. Had any news organization had an independent computer expert explore the systems they’re arguing about?
Elon Musk lies again. Civilian Starlink was already speed-limited, and every terminal had to be whitelisted. Yet Starshield was throttled too, which can’t be explained by alleged ToS violations. His explanations keep contradicting each other, making his claims even less credible
