Why don't Washington and Wall Street talk? Cause they don't speak the same language. Ever.

Breaking news - Central banks socializing bond market losses and privatizing gains is not disinflationary. *ECB, Fed, and BOJ $2T of current market-to-market losses - - held to maturity, losses deferred. The year 2022, was the worst year for bonds in 30+ years.

Yes. It is called quantitative tightening. They unlocked a seized mortgage market by buying MBS. Problem is that quantitative easing and quantitative tightening are not symmetric on their impact. We have more experience with QE than QT. Reason to tread cautiously now.
I read the other day how the Fed cutting off purchases of mortgage backed bonds was the big factor in driving up mortgage rates, making houses even more unaffordable. Looked at it for a second and thought, oh, makes total sense. If lenders hold the risk, of course rates rise.

The Fed is running an operating loss as it pays more to banks and money funds on interest than it earns on its securities portfolio. The central bank, which sends all surpluses to the Treasury, can create an IOU so the loss doesn’t affect its operations wsj.com/articles/higher-inte…

President McCargo also touched on the importance of the IMB sector and highlighted this change as part of Ginnie Mae’s support to the secondary mortgage market in a challenging interest rate environment, to ensure liquidity is reliably available. bit.ly/3Tvd7ZK

Good news and timing from OCC's Michael Hsu. Given the challenging economy and new regulatory mandates, cutting assessment fees will primarily aid community banks by $41.3 million. Midsize banks can expect an $11.1 million reduction. bankingdive.com/news/occ-cut…
