Ohio has the blessing of being a state that has two good candidates for Senator and two terrible ones for Governor.
🚨 OMG. Amy Acton is HAMMERED... She straight-up embarrassed herself, walking out and slurring like she's drunk out of her mind! "Ohhh it's so GOOD. Good to be back here, it's about truuuth and justice I just wrote on the worrrr, words back here. That is. I'm honored to be here!" 💀💀 Ohio, do NOT make the wrong choice on Tuesday, Vivek is your only option to maintain sanity! Keep Ohio red. Don't hand the governorship over to this PSYCHO h/t @TheCharlesDowns

Bombshell story from @nytimes: It turns out that "Decoy" Dan Sullivan was found and recruited to confuse Alaskan voters. Found and recruited by who? According to the Times, Democrat candidate Mary Peltola working with Chuck Schumer. @AGIowa led a brief to stop the confusion.

Fraud in the factum in elections is nothing new. Nebraska has its own 1930 version of the Dan Sullivan case. The difference is that the Nebraska Supreme Court put an end to the nonsense and didn't even feel the need to cite precedent to protect the integrity of our elections.
One further point on the two-Dans-Sullivan: Americans are used to the kind of lying in politics that lawyers call "fraud in the inducement." Candidates make fake claims and wild promises to persuade you to vote their way. That's life in a free country; politics ain't beanbag, etc., etc. What we're less used to is the kind of lying that lawyers call "fraud in the factum": trying to confuse your fellow citizens about what the very *act of voting* involves. (Circulating fake mail-in ballots so people think they've voted already, etc.) That isn't an effort at persuasion; it's an attack on the electoral process itself. If you think Our Democracy Is Under Threat, you should see it as under threat here too.

"In most acquisitions, you buy the company to get its assets. In Biglaw, you can just hire the assets and leave the liabilities behind." You can even hire A LOT of the lawyers—and still leave the liabilities behind. See, e.g., what Hogan Lovells did w/Stroock, and what Morgan Lewis did w/Bingham & Brobeck.
"Weil Gotshal is nothing without its people" crazy that one of the most prestigious law firms ($2.1B revenue, $5.6M profit per equity partner), is considering bankruptcy. In law, you can effectively acquire a firm's business without acquiring the firm, and Cravath just took their biggest M&A lawyer which led to a bunch of other people leaving. In most acquisitions, you buy the company to get its assets. In Big Law, you can just hire the assets and leave the liabilities behind. IMO AI will make this even worse... If AI replaces much of the work done by junior associates, superstar partners will need fewer people and less infrastructure around them... so why would the best partners share economics with a giant partnership?

No debt, huge profits, and it is collapsing. Totally incredible to me.
1/ A shocking turn of events at Weil Gotshal—especially since, as a partner who just got out of the meeting told me, the firm has no debt, a key factor in past Biglaw bankruptcies and dissolutions.

1/ This suggests that @Harvard, prior to the #SCOTUS decision in SFFA, had a heavy thumb on the scale against Asian American applicants.👇
Asian-Americans in Harvard’s Incoming Class More Than Double, to 43.2 Percent Newly released data on the Harvard College class of 2030 say the class is 43.2 percent Asian-American, a record high and more than double the level when Students for Fair Admissions first sued Harvard alleging racial discrimination in admissions. The U.S. Supreme Court ruled in 2023 that Harvard was unlawfully using race as a factor in admissions. Since then, the numbers of Hispanic and black students in the incoming Harvard classes have dipped, while the numbers of Asian-Americans have soared.

Law school prepares you to analyze and argue complex legal issues. Practicing law prepares you to argue with seven people about whether a deposition can happen on a Thursday.

At least three Chinese firms are cutting ties with French soccer star Kylian Mbappé, after he made some comments apparently referring to Mao Zedong, the founding leader of Communist China, as a dictator. Read more: abcnews.link/jV172NL

One way the Supreme Court has dramatically improved: the end of pluralities. As far as I can tell, the last principal opinion that failed to command a majority in any part was Borden v. United States (2021).

Reyes, admittedly not a golf fan, still gets in some references — along with a Scalia cite about "golf and government." ecf.dcd.uscourts.gov/cgi-bin…
