Populist messaging won big on Tuesday. Woke posturing was nowhere to be seen. But watch for fringe types to come out of the woodwork and take credit, claiming a victory for open borders, prison abolition, and race reparations....

He sounds just like my friend David Sirota, a longtime Bernie staffer. If you want to believe this is a blue dog well we all have our fantasies.
James Talarico traces 50 years of trickle-down back to one 1971 document, the Powell memo, a corporate blueprint to buy power
“In fact, you can, you can pinpoint this one document called the Powell memo, 1971.”
“But if you read this memo, it's basically a blueprint for how corporate interests can start to dismantle the Great Society and the New Deal”
“They're going to spend massive amounts of money in our politics, buying politicians in both parties, elevate corporate voices in media, appoint sympathetic judges.”
“And that has really been the story of the last 50 years in this country, last five decades.”

Let NC be a warning to aspirant gerrymanderers. You thought you had created 10 R districts while trapping the Ds in 4, but in doing so, you diluted your margins in your own districts. In the end, the Ds took 10 districts and w/ luck, you might end up with 4 by razor-thin margins.

¿Qué significa “ser gay” cuando las condiciones materiales de la vida vuelven esa identidad precaria, desigual o incluso irrelevante? .....

Gina Hinojosa explains why she doesn’t call herself a liberal or a progressive but a populist: progressivism is associated with culture wars, and is not up to the challenge of our time. Populism is about economic power and is up to the challenge.
This contentious interchange between the NY Times and @GinaHinojosaTX was truly amazing. Hinojosa offered one of the best explanations of populism I've ever seen. Her comments were a total rejection of Corporate Dems' neoliberal formula. Her Texas victory is a game changer.

The Trump admin wanted America to watch a livestreamed execution. Well, they just did.
Spinmeisters will be telling us what it all means over the coming days. Tamping down identity politics & ramping up economic populism moved the dial in key swing and even red states. But “less drama, sturdy organizational structure" performed exceedingly well in NC and GA.
Buttigieg: I voted for Abdul, it was because Abdul is for everybody getting health care running against Mike Rogers, who repeatedly voted to cut the affordable care act. This vote was not a close call for me. And whatever Haley Stevens says isn't going to change that for me. And I don't think it's changing that for a lot of Michiganders either.

Cuauhtémoc Cárdenas (1934-2026) died a few days ago. He was the son of Lázaro Cárdenas, one of the most remarkable of Mexico's presidents (1934-1940). This is a photograph taken on 13 November 1994 at Guadalupe Tepeyac, Chiapas with Andrés Manuel López Obrador (AMLO), former president of Mexico (2018-1014), Subcomandante Marcos of the EZLN (Zapatistas), and Rosario Ibarra de Piedra (1927-2022). Doña Rosario entered politics when her son Jesús Piedra Ibarra (a member of the Liga Comunista 23 de Septiembre) was disappeared by the state; she founded and ran Comité Eureka to campaign against forced disappearances. This is a fabulous picture of four icons of the Mexican left.
Go well Cuauhtémoc Cárdenas, who paved the way.
