Hemorrhoids maybe a taboo to talk, but they are serious menace (unexpected soiling, interfere with colorectal cancer screening).
Known in antiquity to Egyptians, Babylonians, Greeks & in Old Testament, Hippocrates wrote a whole treatise "On Hemorrhoids".

Colorectal Cancer Screening - what to know about blood in stool?
Despite low awareness blood is stool, especially from hemorrhoids is very common (up to 1 in 3 people).
A FIT test checks human globin from colon to detect polyps & early signs of cancer.

Can Hair be Used for Health Testing?
Hair can be an easy method for monitoring metal toxicity, especially for Mercury (from seafood), Arsenic, Cadmium & Lead.
It's often used for metals & nutrients ingested through food & water (not airborne exposure).

H. pylori is known to cause peptic ulcers, gastritis.
Testing options to confirm symptoms:
1. Antigen test - checks bacterial proteins
2. PCR test - checks DNA
3. Antibody test - antibodies from infection
4. Breath test - urease enzyme made by bacteria.

H. pylori Antigen vs PCR Tests
Guidelines from the American College of Gastroenterology (ACG) say antigen tests can have sensitivity of 88-95%, specificity of 92-97%.
PCR tests generally have higher sensitivity, about 93-98% & specificity over 98%.

H. pylori Antigen vs DNA Test:
An antigen test checks bacteria proteins & is useful in confirming a successful treatment.
A DNA or PCR test checks DNA of the bacteria. It can help plan a treatment (with virulence factors & antibiotic resistance genes).

Lp(a) vs LPA:
Lipoprotein-little-a is lipoprotein particle in your blood (similar to cholesterol).
LPA is a gene.
Both are markers of heart health & related to cholesterol & lipids.
LPA as the genetic instruction to help make Lp(a) blood particle.

👉Heterogeneity in Lipoprotein(a) Profile Changes Across the Menopausal Transition
☝️New data challenge the concept of Lp(a) as a truly “once-in-a-lifetime” measurement—particularly across menopause.
1️⃣ In 4,562 women from the UK Biobank, overall changes in Lp(a) over ~4 years were modest.
2️⃣ Among women with baseline Lp(a) 75–125 nmol/L, those transitioning through menopause showed a median increase of 34.9 nmol/L—~4× greater than women remaining pre- or postmenopausal.
3️⃣ 56.4% of these women crossed the clinically relevant ≥125 nmol/L threshold after menopause, versus ~29% in the comparison groups.
4️⃣ After adjustment for age and baseline Lp(a), menopausal transition was associated with a 2.27-fold higher risk of crossing that threshold.
☝️Take-home message: Lp(a) is largely genetically determined, but not necessarily biologically static.
Repeat measurement after menopause may be particularly relevant when premenopausal Lp(a) is in the intermediate range

Lp(a) is LDL-like particle, elevated for 1-in-5 people.
Lp(a) is genetically inherited & should be tested at least once in lifetime (2026 Guidelines).
High levels cause arterial plaque, inflame vessel walls, promote clotting & aortic valve damage.

Lp(a) vs LPA - What's Difference & What To Test For?
- Lipoprotein(a) or Lp(a) is part of a blood test
- mostly INHERITED
- should be tested **at least once** in lifetime (2026 Guidelines)
- LPA is a gene that codes for APOA; modifies LDL to make Lp(a)

How the Body Turns Food into Energy?
The Metabolic Pathway here reads various products as cells convert fats, carbohydrates & proteins into fuel.
In an Organic Acids Test (OAT), one urine sample maps dozens of these checkpoints (carriers & cofactors).

Women will live even longer (81.4 years), while men have about 5 years shorter lifespan (76.5 years).
Asian American women have the highest life expectancy at 87.7 years.

The "family tree" of hormones.
Everything begins with cholesterol: most people think of Cholesterol only in terms of heart disease.
But biologically it is the raw material for all steroid hormones: DHEA, Testosterone, Cortisol, Progesterone, Estrogen.

The cortisol awakening response (CAR) is a sharp rise in cortisol levels after waking up.
It is distinct from the 24-hour diurnal rhythm.
In a normal person without significant stress, cortisol is highest at 30-60 mins after waking up.

Iron deficiency is a common nutritional deficiency worldwide.
In US, 1 in 20 men & 1 in 7 women have iron deficiency (CDC); child bearing age highest risk (17%).
1 mg of iron is lost daily through stool, skin, mucous & GI (women lose 0.3-0.5 mg more).

One of the controlling knobs is COMT, as it affects neurotransmitter (e.g., dopamine) levels.
COMT gene variants are key to our behavior.
