Duke Energy guaranteed a $10 million line of credit so the Democrats could hold their 2012 convention in Charlotte.
The host committee never paid it back. Duke simply wrote it off. Shareholders (and ultimately ratepayers) ate roughly $6 million of the cost after taxes.
Jim Rogers, Duke’s CEO at the time and a co-chair of the host committee, shrugged it off as a contribution “for the greater good.”
Years later Lynn Good collected $20–21 million packages—mostly stock and incentives—while North Carolina families watched electricity prices climb and the company sought rate hikes.

This is important so here is my best attempt at summarizing Data Republican’s troubling find:
For decades, USAID employees have successfully wielded our tax dollars to provoke unrest in foreign countries with the goal of replacing ‘illegitimate’ governments with their preferred governments.
Elections present a favorable setting for orchestrating such unrest and political ‘transitions.’
Now that domestic USAID funding has dried up, a shadowy band of ex-USAID employees and former military/intelligence/diplomacy officials has begun implementing an active plan to provoke unrest in our own country with the goal of declaring our federal government as ‘illegitimate’ and replacing it with a completely restructured US government.
This type of mass unrest could quite plausibly be used to nudge Trump to cross a ‘red line’ such as declaring martial law or invoking the insurrection act.
Crossing any red line presents an opportunity to say, ‘See look! He’s an evil dictator! This is the only way we can stop him!!’ And too many people will believe it and uncritically go along with it.
I’ll pause here to say I know, I know. It all sounds like a grand conspiracy theory. It’s not.
Nobody is saying all elected Democrats are secretly in cahoots to stage a coup. No. This is about a relatively small group of specific unelected operatives pulling the strings to manipulate elected Democrats and media outlets and well-meaning citizens.
How do we know? We have clear recordings documenting it. Data Republican always brings receipts.
Please don’t be fooled. This powerful group claims to be saving democracy. But their plan is not at all about saving democracy. It’s about controlling it.

I just came across this in an Open Society Foundations document about how to fix public “mistrust” of liberal "democracy," and I honestly feel sick reading it. I've read many alarming quotes, but few are so "mask off" like this.
"I believe the time has come for a responsible, courageous elite, those who care far more about addressing the genuine social problems than about election results. Only a political elite with vision, prudence and a focus on the general good—to whom the electorate… can cede part of their sovereignty in the elections—will be able to justify public trust and spearhead... our struggle to survive.""
Read that again. The proposed solution to the public's distrust in democracy... is less democracy.
An unelected "elite" to whom the public should cede sovereignty.
Abolish democracy to save democracy. This kind of thinking is what we're up against.

Failing the California bar exam the first time is normal. Who cares? But this is not the issue.
What is not normal is failing the exam and then lying for years about being a lawyer or attorney to get on television. It is illegal in California to present as a lawyer or attorney and especially to practice law without passing the bar. Presenting this way after passing the ethics exam - before failing the bar - makes it worse because an individual would know it is not okay. She did it anyway.
Lying to the President of the United States about your resume to land a job is a big deal. The President incorrectly and repeatedly stated she was an attorney because for years she said so. I’d hope more people would be upset about that. The issue is the dishonesty.
All of this was preventable. What a shame.

It’s not a mystery. Marc Elias is the same guy who helped Cooper win his second term as governor by getting a consent decree through the Democrat run (at the time under Cooper) NC STATE election board to circumvent NC Laws for no signature, no witness mail in ballots in the 2020 election.
This is not a surprise.
It is coordinated.
Seems preeeety interesting that they outsourced their response to Marc Elias and his Dem law firm instead of just having one of their 37 comms staffers respond and say "yes, he's healthy", which would be a much easier thing to do!
Wonder why they did that? Now that's a mystery!
