Harold Reynolds says Barry Bonds could read a pitcher’s grip before the ball was thrown and tell what pitch was coming from the on-deck circle
“He was in a class with guys like Roberto Alomar and Rod Carew, guys I had heard about and been around, who could read pitch grips better than anybody. Barry was on that level.”
“Rod Carew was my hitting coach in Anaheim when I played for the Angels. He’d walk up and down the dugout and say, ‘You guys don’t see it. I see what y’all don’t see.’ The pitcher would be sitting there, and Rod would say, ‘Changeup.’ Next thing you know, the guy throws a changeup. I’m like, ‘He hasn’t even moved yet, Rod.’ And he’d say, ‘You guys don’t see it.’”
“Barry was on that level. So as a pitcher, you’re facing a guy who is probably picking up every pitch you’re throwing.”
Jake Peavy: “Barry Bonds would be in the on-deck circle against me, and he’d just be leaning there. No swing, no nothing. Just watching. Sitting there, waiting. I’m thinking, ‘Let me show him something different.’ I’m telling you, he would get off that ledge, and if you threw him a strike, it was going deep.”

UPDATE on the Timeless Tickets:
The Brewers have released a statement recognizing the extraordinary commitment of Timeless Ticket holders and apologizing for difficulties with the redemption process.
Timeless Ticket holders get a HUGE win here — the 2026 World Series tickets they received WILL NOT count as the one-time redemption of their Timeless Tickets, so they will get to attend the World Series this year *and* retain their Timeless Ticket, which can still be redeemed for any Brewers home game in any future season.
More than a decade ago, the Brewers sold 1,000 "Timeless Tickets" for $1,000 each, promising that they could be redeemed for any Brewers home game between now and when the sun finally engulfs the earth. Even in the year 2050, even in Game 7 of the World Series.
They got A MILLION DOLLARS for almost nothing, and who knows how much they've made on that low-overhead influx of cash since 2015. But now that the Brewers are actually in the World Series, people are coming forward to redeem their Timeless Tickets, and apparently the organization is giving some of them a hard time.
World Series tickets in Milwaukee are sold out at face value and some are going for as much as $15,000 on the resale market. The very cheapest SRO tickets just to get into the ballpark are reselling for far more than the cost of a Timeless Ticket.
But I'll tell you what: the best possible look for the Brewers organization would not only be to honor the Timeless Tickets as promised, but to make the process SO unbelievably fun and easy for the folks that parted with $1,000 back on the eve of Khris Davis's FIRST season batting .247, when the Brewers went 68-94 to finish in fourth place.
