We are so lucky in the UK to have gay organisations like @AllianceLGB arguing against the state-enforced sterilisation of children (aka the Conversion Practices Bill). Other countries from Europe to Australia were not so lucky.
This afternoon our Vice Chair, Dermot Kehoe, gave evidence at the Joint Committee on the draft Conversion Practices bill.
Parents should never feel afraid to tell their child “I don’t believe you’re born in the wrong body… but I do believe you’re my gay son and I support you in that”.

I don't care who says it, or what political party they represent. When it comes to Tony Blair and Alastair Campbell, the Iraq War must never be forgotten, and neither should those responsible for taking Britain into it.
Last night on BBC Question Time, @ZiaYusufUK called Alastair Campbell a "war criminal" to his face. Campbell didn't appear to take kindly to the accusation. But then, the families of those who died in Iraq have had rather more to endure than a few uncomfortable moments on national television.
What makes it all the more galling is how readily the British establishment rehabilitates its own. Catastrophic decisions that cost thousands of lives are treated as unfortunate chapters in otherwise distinguished careers. Accountability, it seems, is reserved for those without the right connections.
Tony Blair was awarded the Order of the Garter, one of Britain's highest honours. Alastair Campbell reinvented himself as a podcast statesman, dispensing lectures on honesty, decency and political integrity to an audience apparently willing to overlook his part in selling the Iraq War.
For those at the top, reputations can be rebuilt. For the dead, there is no such luxury.
The facts do not care about their polished reputations. One hundred and seventy-nine British service personnel came home in boxes from an illegal war built on cooked intelligence, sexed-up dossiers, and sheer imperial vanity. Hundreds of thousands of Iraqis paid for that catastrophic lie with their lives, their families, and the total ruin of their homeland.
Robin Cook had the spine to resign on principle, warning Parliament of the abyss ahead. David Kelly, a decent civil servant trapped in Downing Street's spin machine, ended up dead in an Oxfordshire wood.
The political class will tell you it was a different time, that good men acted in good faith on flawed intelligence, or that we must move forward. It is pure self-exoneration. If an ordinary working man lied about his credentials and caused the death of one person, he would spend decades behind bars.
When power commits murder on an industrial scale, Britain does not build a dock for the accused. It builds them a career.
The architects of the invasion received honours and rehabilitation. The dead received no second chance.

Helen Joyce is so clear and logical in her thinking and explanations here. If this is ignored it will be a deliberate decision to stand against responsible parenting. @HJoyceGender @SexMattersOrg
“If my husband takes my phone away from me because he doesn’t want me contacting people, that’s coercive control. If I do that to my child, that maybe responsible parenting”
Well said @HJoyceGender! #BinTheBill

I would go further. This bill will tear families apart and it will cast the shadow of criminal law across every kitchen table where a distressed teenager is having difficult conversions with mum and dad.
This isn’t gay rights. This is tyranny.

The conversion bill is a trojan horse to sneak contested identity concepts into law. These efforts have failed on multiple occasions in the civil division and this bill is an attempt to rerun those arguments on pain of criminal prosecution.

@VictoriaPrentis asks the panel – @Jebadoo2 (@MensNetwork1), @HJoyceGender (Sex Matters) and Dermot Kehoe (@AllianceLGB) – about how the bill defines conversion practices and how far the term reaches.

“We could amend this Bill here, there and everywhere, carve out this, tweak that, but at the end of the day the government would still be passing a Bill that says there’s one area, and one area only, of medical practice where you could get prosecuted if you put a foot wrong. That won’t be a chilling effect, that’ll be a deep freeze”
Magnificent from @Jebadoo2 #BinTheBill

This from Dennis is particularly brilliant. He was asked a leading question about how much conversion therapy is out there, and he turned it incredibly effectively to the post-modern "conversion therapy" that is gender medicine. There is definitely a lot of "reparative therapy" out there - and it's done by the gender clinicians who put gay teenagers on the path to chemical and/or physical castration. The framing the question suggested was that this bill is addressing a serious, existing harm, albeit perhaps the bill needs some safeguards to stop overreach. Dennis moved back onto his own framing, showing that there is a genuine, serious problem with conversion therapy, but it's not where the panel committee think it is, and this bill will make it worse.
The Conversion Practices bill “makes it a crime to say to your teenaged daughter:
I want you to love your body,
I want you to grow up to be a happy lesbian.
I DO NOT BELIEVE YOU ARE A MAN!”

I want you all to know this.
There are 650 MPs in Parliament. Yet the one MP chosen by @UKLabour to Chair the Bill Committee for the controversial, dangerous and dismally bad draft legislation, the Conversion Practices Bill, is Alex Barros-Curtis. Until July 2024, when Alex was given a very safe Labour seat in Cardiff, he was the Head of the Labour Party's Governance and Legal Unit in London. This was a department set up to investigate complaints against members of the Labour Party. Complaints of antisemitism, Islamophobia, abuse, and of course latterly, mostly women holding legally-protected 'Gender Critical' (sex realist) beliefs. Alex oversaw the investigation of hundreds of members who liked or tweeted gender critical or feminist views. I was one of them. He investigated me, as a sitting Labour MP, for 13 months.
13 months to 'investigate' one like of one tweet. I had a great lawyer, one of the names we're all now familiar with, and I had to crowdfund to pay for his (excellent) work.
They first tried in 2020. But the screenshots crudely attached to that passive aggressive, threatening-sounding email from LP admin staff were so risible that I replied that it was too ridiculous for me to waste my precious time on. They left it. Years of Starmer bumbling and stuttering through interviews about whether he had spoken to me, whether he supported me, etc followed. My feminist sins continued apace.
And then I 'liked' a tweet by my GC comedian friend @Glinner. He had mocked Eddie'Suzy' for comparing his choice to wear traditional women's clothing, fake plastic breasts and nails, to those being persecuted by the Nazis during WWII. I found his sarcasm, as a award-winning comedy writer in the face of such offensive narcissism amusing and so 'liked' it. I found it absurd and obscene that Izzard, an extremely privileged and wealthy man, who openly changed his 'gender' at will, should write himself into history falseley as someone who would have been oppressed due to a circumstance beyond his control. We all know the groups who were tortured, starved and killed...
There is obviously more to my story, I will tell it all, it's just one chapter of the years of spiteful abusive and bullying practices meted out to me by the Labour Party managers. Not those who'd achieved office on merit, or even unexpectedly, but those in the club, often having failed to be elected themselves.
So Barros-Curtis who we were repeatedly told led 'the many *independent* inquiries into women members and MPs like me, now often stands as a trans-rights activist on the Labour backbenches. He has also been gifted the role of Chair of this Committee and is a huge supporter of this Bill. And I am not a part of the Bill Committee, although plenty of TRA MPs are. Does that sound like the democratic scrutiny of legislation to you?
