Israel's nuclear program has been shrouded in ambiguity for decades. It's less shrouded now that @Dr_Keefer's @DecoupleMedia podcast has published a fascinating and illuminating conversation titled "The Story of the Israeli Bomb w/ Avner Cohen" It took me a few days to get around to listening - it was published on Oct 15 - but it was worth every minute invested. Cohen took advantage of personal connections, did deep documentary research, and spoke with hundreds of people while writing "Israel and the Bomb and The Worst-Kept Secret". After publishing his work, he was harassed by security services for more than a decade. Learn more. Listen to the show.

Canadian heavy crude is fetching near-record premiums across the Pacific, bolstering the case for the country’s plan to build a new pipeline to its west coast. A barrel of Canadian Cold Lake crude delivered to South Korea traded at a record $9.50 a barrel more than the Dubai crude benchmark in September. It’s a stark contrast to the weakening price Canadian oil is getting in the US, its biggest market. Oil sands benchmark Western Canadian Select’s discount, called a differential, to a monthly average of West Texas Intermediate futures widened to as much as $28.25 a barrel in Alberta last week, the biggest in almost four years. bloomberg.com/news/articles/…

Incredible news from @TheNuclearCo. 6.6 GW of big nukes. Outstanding. Last year, I interviewed @TheNuclearJoe, TNC's Chief Nuclear Officer about his experience at Vogtle and building fleet-scale nuclear: nuclearbarbarians.com/p/no-s… This year, I interviewed @TheNuclearCo's founder, @JonathanWebbKY, about TNC's vision: nuclearbarbarians.com/p/the-… On a personal note, this announcement made me brim with brotherly pride. @energybants, TNC's Chief of Staff, is a dear friend. Watching him realize a dream he's had for the decade I've known him fills me with hope and admiration.

tbf, Trump didn't give this his full effort. Where he has provided his full effort Putin has gotten over 80% of alleged votes.
Despite the Trump administration's best efforts, Alberta votes not to break up Canada

To those who led our Lead not Leave initiative, @jengerson, @KenBoessenkool, and @DrJaredWesley along with @PGarritty, @jfdinning, @TravisToewsAB, and @trevortombe: thank you for standing up for Alberta and defining new ideas for Canada, and for bringing me along with you. 3/

✴️✴️✴️ If you think everything’s fine, think again. This is the revenge of oil—don’t mess with its market. Three points from the NYT: 🟥 Rising Energy Bills: The economic news was grim last week. Government data revealed something millions of Americans have known for months: Rising energy costs, largely driven by the war with Iran, have pushed prices up all over. Wages are flat. And nearly half of Americans are having trouble paying for basic needs right now. 🟥 Hot Summer and Inability to Pay: The climate news hasn’t been much better. It was the hottest summer on record in the United States, hotter than the Dust Bowl summer of 1936. Over the past few months, Americans ran a lot of air-conditioning to keep themselves cool — and, in some places, to keep themselves alive. Now about one in six U.S. households is behind on utility bills, according to federal data. 🟥 The Disconnection: Some hot-weather states have laws to prevent utility companies from shutting off someone’s electricity during the most dangerous heat. But then comes fall, and the disconnections begin to mount. It’s when, Eli Saslow reports, “a climate crisis turns into a collection notice.” Link: nytimes.com/2026/10/18/us/ok…

CHART OF THE DAY: LNG prices rise to a 4-year high, above $30 per mBtu. To put it into context, US/Canadian nat gas prices remain at ~$3 per mBtu. The American heavy industry (particularly chemical/fertilizer) is enjoying a huge feedstock cost advantage.

The Premier fought my efforts every step of the way to reform immigration policies to ease pressure on home prices. Now she’s stealing my talking points and pretending she led the parade.
It cannot be understated: our broken immigration system has caused high unemployment, high home prices and high inflation. It must be fixed and provincial rights strengthened. Today, the Prime Minister got a copy of our referendum questions including the 9 on immigration and constitutional reforms. If Albertans give us a strong mandate on these questions, our government will get right to work on these needed reforms. And as I’ve said many times, please vote for Option 1, a strong Alberta within a united Canada, and yes to the rest! 🍁

Good news #1: The OEB and its expert consultants snuck out new regulated price plan rates late Friday afternoon. 1st impression is this performative act avoided the idiocy of recent years ON costs will still go up a little as the OER subsidy will drop to counteract the new rates

On Tuesday, October 13th, 2026, @CanadiansEnergy and the Canadian nuclear community suffered a tremendous loss with the passing of my dear friend of 25 years @jules_besseling. Jules played a critical role in the development of our CNSC license extension submission for @opg Pickering, with his decades of expertise in pressure tube design and aging informing the main points of the article. Jules was an active member on the @BWXT Community Liaison Committee here in Peterborough, his presence and vitality will be sorely missed. facebook.com/lisa.besseling/…

as I expected, just some alliance building and feigned seriousness. the web contains real-time maps of wind across the globe I suspect @DrChrisClack could arrange the work for a fraction of that cost with available data $100 million - mostly for collaborators🙄
If I’m reading this right the $100 million announced by the federal government for Wind West today will not result in any new electricity being generated. “The support announced today for the collection of wind speed and ocean conditions, marine surveys and energy market studies will generate data and insights valuable to accelerating the development of bankable projects.” canada.ca/en/natural-resourc…

Here's the government's news release on the $100M. I see $5M for, "the deployment of floating light detection and ranging (FLiDAR)–mounted buoys" and "$3 million to pay green keeners to do complex, yet nonsensical, modeling. and another $90+M 🤷 canada.ca/en/natural-resourc…

AI - coz' sometimes it's the only type of I available
Vote option 2 for the future of the three-fingered AI-generated children of Alberta. And spare a thought for the AI-generated dad's elbow while you're at it. That has to hurt.
