Of course it’s okay to say no. Every normal adult knows this except for the person who came to Twitter to paint their friend as a bad person for even extending the invite..lol.
Celebrating major milestones is just a pricey thing in life. You won’t go through life avoiding those costs unless you’re willingly to accept no one taking on that cost for you when it’s time to celebrate you.
Communicating that you’re opting out/declining the invite is the first step in setting standards in the friendship.

It's cuz racism is like breathing air for white people. It's incredibly normal for them. We are talking about generations upon generations of racism passed down through culture, education, media and the judicial system. That kind of conditioning isn't going to dissapear overnight, let alone 100-400 years. Even if they aren't racist themselves, they are surrounded by people they love who are racists or brainwashed with racist beliefs. It's incredibly easy for them to forgive racists or minimize the harm that racists inflict on other people. They don'tknow what it feels like to be on the receiving end. they've never truly had to experience the level of racism that a lot of other minorities have had to endure in this country. And when they get called out for bad behavior, they become defensive and feel like they are being attacked, mainly because racism isn't that bad to them. They believe it's just saying bad words when it's sooooooo much more than that.
