Austin Reaves is closer to Anthony Edwards than Anthony Edwards is to Luka Doncic

My takeaway from this Lukaless half... Luka doesn't need 41% usage for the Lakers to have a good offense. Going to burn himself out or get hurt. Less is more for the long haul.

Wait did the Spurs starters just play 40 minutes to beat the JJJ-less Jazz in OT?? I was told the Lakers were bums for being in a competitive game against them… and that the win didn’t count?

This has easily been the most fun start to a season in like a decade right??? So many interesting situations/teams and the new tanking rules make every game competitive

It’s so funny because I am the opposite of a Vanderbilt fan but fuck when he comes into games like this even I can appreciate it. Just hoping that Thiero can play his role in small ball lineups

This would have been a great Kuminga game. Nobody talks about it but his signing shifted the balance out west, he kept LA from being a dangerous contender and put MIN in the mix

Yeah Vando minutes look decent, don’t even let Looney warm up for games anymore

Serious question that needs to be answered… Who is the Lakers second option tonight?

Vanderbilt is so perfect for these back to backs where you just need to ugly up parts of the game lmao

Vanderbilt is the kind of player I absolutely refuse to play pick-up with lmao

Have no idea who this is, but he’s a living breathing 7ft human, so it’s extremely likely he’s better than 2026 Looney
Just In: The Los Angeles Lakers and Lawson Lovering have agreed to a two-way deal, agent Drew Kelso of @OneMotiveSports told @hoopshype. The 7-foot center averaged 7.0 points and 7.5 rebounds in two games with the Memphis Grizzlies last season.

Of course, the Clippers are missing all the usual suspects, plus Rui, so this should still be a win. AK
Per the Lakers, Luka (back tightness) and Ziaire Williams (left foot soreness), along with the yet-to-suit-up Cameron Carr and Adou Thiero, are out tonight vs the Clippers. AK

These are the stats to watch for Kessler, not his PPG!!
Kessler having a high motor showing at contesting shots is not a surprise. This is from my extensive Kessler profile I did in the summer... Kessler had the highest rate at contested shots at the rim per 100 possession among all high-volume rim protectors👇

Lack of size at the wing in LA is manifesting itself with Kessler having zero help protecting the paint.

Walker Kessler is scoring 23.2 points per 100 possessions on-court for LA's half court offense. That drops to 14.3 vs drop coverage, w/his scoring chances dropping from 16.1 to 11.9 per 100 when facing drop. His assist output nearly triples 👀 From my new tracking dashboard!

Please take the time to understand other teams defensive coverages in relation to Kesslers production. He’s not someone that’s going to create 20ppg, his production is going to dependent upon how teams defend the pick and roll.

I do think we also look back at the Portland game and realize the Blazers are much better than everyone predicted, and it wasn’t some terrible loss.

This is all good, but also NBA season is WAY too long as it is. Pace is up, intensity is up, new draft reform means even less breaks. Players going down with injuries in waves after a week. This will take a while for JJ. Completely new team, so learning phase cant be avoided.
LMAO watching JJ learn in real time what lineups just can’t be played is crazy. The NBA should consider adopting a Slate of practice games prior to the start of the regular season where coaches can learn which lineups go together and which lineups are a net negative before the games actually count. They can call it something interesting like… preseason.
