NIGERIANS, WE NEED YOUR HELP! 🇳🇬 INEC has restricted the amount of time each person can spend on its website, so we need as many people as possible to help with this exercise. Here’s what we’re doing: We’re counting the number of registered voters in each polling unit for 2027 and comparing it with the number of registered voters in that same polling unit in 2023. INEC won’t show us the full register, so we have to do this ourselves, one polling unit at a time. Here’s how you can help. It takes just 60 seconds! STEP 1: Go to this link ⤵️ check.nigeriaelects.com STEP 2: Copy the code generated where it says “Your Polling Unit”. It’s the code containing numbers and dashes. STEP 3: Go to the INEC website and scroll down to “Find a Polling Unit”. Paste the code you copied into the PU Code box and click “Find”. STEP 4: The polling unit information will appear, including the number of registered voters. Copy ONLY the number of registered voters (the whole number, without the dashes). STEP 5: Return to the first website, paste the number into the space provided for registered voters and click Submit. That’s all! See the attached video for a visual guide. 60 seconds of your time can help us build a clearer picture of what’s happening with our voters’ register. Please participate and share this with other Nigerians. The more people who help, the more polling units we can cover. Let’s get to work! 🇳🇬

GOOD DAY, MR PRESIDENT: NIGERIANS DESERVE ACCOUNTABILITY Good day, Mr President. I congratulate you on spending a night in one of Nigeria’s states outside Lagos and Abuja. I hope you enjoyed the warmth, hospitality, and delicious cuisine of Akwa Ibom, which I am sure is even better than those of the destinations where you have spent over 260 days outside Nigeria since coming into office. I sincerely hope this visit will inspire you to travel to the remaining 33 states of the federation, spend time with the people and, more importantly, explain what your administration has done with the ₦15.8 trillion saved from the removal of fuel subsidy, the over $100 billion you have borrowed, the increased revenues accruing to the government from taxing Nigerians, and the additional government revenues which your administration celebrated last year as having surpassed its target. Nigerians deserve to know how many that were pulled out of poverty within this period, how many out-of-school children were returned to school, and how many functional primary healthcare centres you have built. They also deserve to know how much electricity supply has improved, especially given your promise that if you do not fix power, Nigerians should not vote for you. They deserve an explanation of how you have secured the country, which still ranks among the most terrorised countries in the world. Mr President, Nigerians deserve answers. They deserve to know what has been done with the resources entrusted to your government. The New Nigeria we want to build will be based on accountability, transparency, and the physical, measurable impact of our public resources on the lives of citizens. A new Nigeria is POssible. -PO

There is a rather sinister form of corruption happening at the Jos Museum, and my recent experience left me utterly disappointed. We visited the zoo to see the animals, and what should have been a straightforward transaction turned into something quite revealing. Attendant: Your total payment is ₦1,300. Me: Why? Isn't the entrance fee ₦300 per adult? Attendant: Foreigners pay ₦1,000. Me: Oh, okay. Fair enough. I made the payment. But then something interesting happened. The attendant casually tore out two ₦300 tickets, totalling ₦600, and handed them to us. Me: Hold on. Why am I paying ₦1,300 when you've issued me tickets worth only ₦600? Attendant: Well, the person responsible for issuing receipts to foreigners isn't available. Me: That's not my problem. I want receipts that accurately reflect what I've paid. The attendant appeared confused, perhaps surprised that I was questioning the discrepancy. Me: Since children's tickets cost ₦200 each, tear out five of those and give them to me. That will account for the ₦1,000 paid for the foreign visitor. The attendant frowned but eventually complied. Now, here's what bothers me. This isn't necessarily an isolated incident. Sometimes, attendants collect the full adult entrance fee but issue children's tickets instead. The difference between what you pay and what is officially recorded creates an opportunity for money to disappear into private pockets. Think about the implications. If this happens repeatedly, how much revenue is the museum potentially losing? How much money that should go towards maintaining the facility, caring for the animals, and improving the visitor experience is being diverted? And perhaps most embarrassingly, all of this happened in the presence of a foreign visitor. I was utterly disappointed. Not simply because of the money, but because of what the experience communicates about us as a society. You can only imagine the impression such an encounter leaves on someone visiting Nigeria. Corruption isn't always about politicians stealing billions. Sometimes, it's an attendant collecting ₦1,300 and issuing receipts worth ₦600. These seemingly insignificant acts of dishonesty, repeated across thousands of public institutions, are part of the larger problem we keep complaining about. The management of the Jos Museum needs to pay closer attention to its ticketing and revenue collection processes. Every payment should be properly accounted for, and every visitor should receive a receipt reflecting the actual amount paid. We cannot keep demanding accountability at the highest levels of government while normalising dishonesty in the smallest corners of our public institutions.
A friend from Poland came to Jos today for the first time. I took her to Jos Museum and I was dumbfounded to explain that the place is rubbish. I can see the disappointment in her face, all I did was reply with a large grin. Home of Peace and Tourism has let me down today 💔
