SpaceX just flew its Starfall capsule for the second time.
It rode today's Bandwagon-5 Falcon 9 with 31 other payloads.
Why it matters: per an FAA filing, Starfall can return up to 1,000 kg from orbit. SpaceX calls it routine microgravity access for research and manufacturing.
🚀 SpaceX launched its Starfall reentry capsule for the second time on the Bandwagon-5 rideshare mission on October 20. Falcon 9 lifted off from Florida at 7:04 a.m. ET carrying 32 payloads, with the booster landing successfully. The disk-shaped capsule provides affordable microgravity access for manufacturing, research, and testing while returning up to 2,200 pounds of payload.
It's so weird how secretive they're being over Starfall. We've still see no official pictures of it other than renders, and they’ve been so vague about what it could be used for.
Interesting.
did @VardaSpace get cooked or validated?
According to @grok, Starfall is a disk-shaped reentry capsule that can carry up to 1,000kg and that uses cold-gas thrusters for attitude control.
It seems the mission is more than simply reaching orbit, but also making the journey repeatable, productive, and economically rewarding to Earth - thanks to Starfall turning microgravity into a working environment, and reentry into a delivery system.
