The problem isn’t that AI is intelligent. It isn’t. The problem is that too many adults (but not all) are at once mechanistic, imitative, unimaginative, stupid, formulaic, influenceable, & gullible, arrogant beyond their skill set, & too expensive to maintain.

I have observed this on many occasions. For instance, a friend of mine who is a brilliant planner and a brilliant copywriter found it almost impossible to gain employment. It may be part of a wider phenomenon which explains the popularity of performance marketing. Because performance marketing is entirely devoted to achieving one narrow thing, it appears 100% effective at that one thing. Other communication forms which achieve multiple objectives don't have a pet single metric all of their own to make themselves look good. – at Sundridge, South East

Company email servers should only deliver messages three times a day - morning, noon, and mid-afternoon (mimicking the old London postal model). It would kill the constant distraction, and I'm convinced would make offices more productive and significantly happier places.

E siamo grati a chi ci aiuta. Grazie, Italia! Buona Festa della Repubblica!

1/n A physical book is a real object, anchored. If you read a particular edition, you remember not only the contents but the object itself: its cover, typography, smell, even where a passage sat on the page. Books organize themselves in memory by place --the ancient method of loci. Digital text does not exist.
My new library does not have tall bookshelves, intentionally so all books are in easy reach. Non #Lindy books are ditched except those that can be useful are in a hallway not in the main rooms. [Same material as Umberto Eco's but shorter]

People, and I mean also decision makers, bureaucrats, and CEOs, can‘t think in terms of second order events. This is not to blame them for lack of complex systems thinking. This is based on observations and experience since the first systemic risks emerged during GFC 2007/08.
Now try to imagine what will happen in Australia if China goes to war with the Taiwanese.

The fellow below (like all IQ obsessed shlemiels) didn't get the contradiction that if both neurosurgeons are identical in performance, education, etc., yet are separated by 3 STD in IQ, it means IQ does not reflect anything. Wittgenstein's Ruler.

Semplice.

“He is celebrating progress in protecting kids from harm, yet just a few years earlier he helped with defense language in a case about exploiting minors. Sarah put it all out there publicly with hard evidence from the files, and we tagged Pinker directly, asking for comment or explanation on the specifics—the 416 mentions, the 2007 letter, the ongoing ties. He had every chance to address it, deny parts, or clear the air. Instead, he blocked Sarah, blocked me over a tiny repost, and stayed quiet. If the book's message about making child harm unacceptable is genuine, why not use words to push back on questions tied to his own past actions?” GREAT point and good article.

In the past, technology caused employment to move up on the sophistication scale. Technology provided the muscle, people did more and more of the thinking . Today, AI is forcing people to move down into low tech and perhaps menial jobs.

Many believe that someone coming from the private sector will be business-minded & not bureaucratic. No, You get a salary (not a commission/cut) => you are a bureaucrat. CEOs are the most bureaucratic, even those on incentive, WORSE than government bureaucrats.
