DESE’s Lucas Bond talks with Dean Wake, Assistant Director of Transportation for Springfield Public Schools, to show how Missouri keeps school buses safe and road‑ready.
Every bus must pass a full safety inspection within 60 days before operating each school year, and daily pre‑trip checks — brakes, mirrors, lights, emergency exits — help protect students every day.

Outdoor Pursuits — place‑based and credit‑bearing — gives juniors and seniors immersive experiences across the Ozarks with community partners and outdoor professionals. Students build technical skills, problem‑solving, teamwork, and leadership while exploring recreation, conservation, and environmental stewardship.

#417Reads literacy initiative kicked off today with 160 mentors visiting more than 30 Springfield Public Schools to read aloud to third and fourth grade classrooms.📖🎉💙
In partnership with @Scholastic, this district and community-wide initiative is dedicated to expanding access to books, strengthening instructional practices and making literacy a priority across SPS. The mentors will return each month throughout the 2026-2027 school year to read new books and foster a passion for reading amongst the students.
