There is another cultural bias at place: Latin Americans will almost never report anything to authorities and have far poorer non-gov organizations. That may explain why so few reports despite being deep into American and ufo culture.

It may just be where I lived, but talks about aliens and UFOs were somewhat common in Brazil, specially among the poorest working class people. I heard them all the time from growing up all the way to working with patients at the hospital.

"Reported" ufo sightings. Reported to who? Oh, entities that primarily cover those areas. That graphic is sadly misrepresentative. Many of the best cases historically come from outside of those areas. Personal favorite being the famous Ariel School incident in Zimbabwe.

UFO sighting mirrors a structural tendency of the mind. It's a way to explain subtle realms, using words of your local surroundings/ culture. One is speaking of deities, the other of the Galactic Federation,and the third UFOs. It's all about the lens into the depths of the self
