ALT AG Rayfield is leading a new lawsuit to stop the Trump administration from gutting a law that helps police and prosecutors catch money launderers, fraudsters, and tax cheats. The law requires businesses to tell the federal government who actually owns and controls them - so criminals can’t hide their money in shell companies and keep their names from showing up. The U.S. Treasury Dept.’s Financial Crimes Enforcement Network has exempted 99.9% of businesses from the law, making it nearly useless.

ALT “The federal administration has given a green light to all sorts of criminals. In gutting the Corporate Transparency Act, the administration is welcoming organized crime, international money laundering, corruption, and tax evasion—and allowing it to happen right under our noses. Congress decided to crack down on criminals hiding behind anonymous shell corporations, and this administration has unilaterally reversed that effort.”

ALT Rep. Jayapal and Omar speak at a press conference together. Below, a headline from "THE NEW REPUBLIC" reads: "Trump’s Vile Persecution of Ilhan Omar Is About to Run Into a Wall." Smaller text reads, "If they retake the House, Democrats will have plenty of ways to act against Trump's corrupt prosecutions. Pramila Jayapal and Jamie Raskin say they're going to use them."

ALT AG Rayfield calls on Meta to protect legitimate political activity after “No Kings” account was taken down

ALT Today, AG Rayfield pressed Meta for answers after the social media company mistakenly shut down the No Kings Coalition’s Instagram account in the middle of a nationwide day of action. According to the No Kings Coalition, its Instagram account was suspended on the morning of October 17, during the group’s nationwide day of action to support early voting. Administrators say they heard nothing from Meta for about 90min., and full access wasn’t restored for 4+ hours.

ALT “Meta’s actions have raised a significant number of questions and red flags about the policies, procedures, and protections they have in place for legitimate political speech. The company owes the public a clear explanation of what went wrong and what it’s doing to make sure it doesn’t happen again.”
