🔎 NEED TO IDENTIFY 🔍 We are investigating an incident in which a woman allegedly impersonated a police officer during a traffic stop in N.E. Calgary. 📍 At approx. 3 p.m. on Monday, Oct. 5, 2026, a woman was travelling from Chestermere on westbound 16 Avenue N.E. when she noticed a black Toyota van with an aftermarket siren mounted on it following closely behind her. As she approached the intersection of 16 Avenue & 68 Street N.E., the van activated the siren, which sounded noticeably different from a traditional police siren. After stopping for a red light, the driver of the van exited the vehicle & approached the driver's side window, requesting the woman's driver's licence. The woman noticed the suspect was not displaying police insignia & questioned whether she was a police officer, asking to see police identification. The suspect then returned to the van & left the area. 🔎 The suspect is described as an Indigenous woman with medium-length black hair, wearing jeans. Safety tips: The law requires motorists to pull over when a police vehicle activates its emergency lights behind them. However, the Calgary Police Service reminds drivers of the following safety tips: 🔹 If you are unsure whether the person stopping you is a police officer, ask to see official identification or call 911 to confirm the officer's identity. 🔹 Most Calgary Police Service traffic stops are conducted by officers in marked vehicles or in unmarked vehicles driven by officers wearing full police uniforms. 🔹 Marked police vehicles are equipped with red & blue emergency lights on top & display the Calgary Police Service crest & the word "POLICE" on the sides. 🔹 Unmarked police vehicles use red & blue emergency lights located in the grille or inside the vehicle. 🔹 In rare circumstances, an officer in plain clothes may conduct a traffic stop in an unmarked vehicle. Such officers are required to carry police identification at all times. 🔹 Drivers should remain in their vehicle during a traffic stop unless directed otherwise by a police officer. 🔹 Police officers will identify themselves & will never demand money during a traffic stop. Anyone with information about this incident or who knows the identity of the suspect is asked to contact police. Information? ☎️ CPS: 403-266-1234 🛑 @stopcrimeyyc ⚖ Case #: CA26457990 | 5659
