After decades in the classroom, I love that I still learn from students every day. Sometimes I even learn from them long after they graduate. Teaching, at its core, is the absolute best.

I’m pretty convinced that all K-12 teachers should have time in their day for reading, researching, and writing in their fields. We need more scholarship from people who are actually doing the work. But that takes time.

I love this! Looking forward to reading many of these texts and adding them to my students' reading lists.

I planned to do some grad work this morning or finalize my PDPs or get caught up with grading. Instead, I reread chunks of bell hooks's all about love. Her words and my introspection will absolutely make me a better teacher than any of those other things this week. No regrets.

So awesome! I'm directing students to these charts, and I have this bookstore on my list of places I must visit on my next cross-country trek. Thanks, @RoomofOnesOwn!

This is fantastic. Thank you for sharing, @JennBinis and team!
In case it's useful, I helped create a plagiarism rubric with a group of middle level/HS teachers at the end of an intensive design week where we all got a little punchy. It helped communicate what's behind plagiarism and how it impacts the authors who's been plagiarized. IMO.

I'm receiving word you can order free covid tests from the USPS again — and this time you get eight. This is worth doing if not just to experience the fastest, cleanest web form in the history of governmental internet. special.usps.com/testkits

I totally understand the importance of the crisis this article highlights. We are living it. It also reminds me of Don Graves, who would say "Teachers are like 5 lb. bags into which people are always trying to stuff 10 lbs. of grain." Teachers' MH needs are also urgent now.

It's not your job to fix a toxic workplace from the bottom. If leaders at the top aren't committed to change, the best way to stay sane is to shield yourself and support your team. Your responsibility is to protect your well-being, your career, and the people you care about.

There should be a designated staff scream room on every school's campus.
Like many parents and caregivers, this group of moms in Massachusetts needed a break. So when one suggested they gather one evening to just scream... there were lots of takers. h/t @wbur's @meghanbkelly ➡️ n.pr/3FQvmko

The holidays shouldn’t be a time to recharge. They should be a time to celebrate. If work is exhausting people to the point that they’re using their time off to recover, you might have a burnout culture. A healthy organization doesn’t leave people drained in the first place.
