Things feel hard right now. The pandemic is not over — it is still taking lives and leaving people, young and old, with long-term illnesses. Prices for food and gas are still high. As I write this,...

Might be biased, but these reasons why geographers remain relevant are only the tip of the (albeit receding) iceberg

My brain hurts with the effort of whittling down the wealth of amazing essential readings. Feel free to make it even harder by sharing your favorites!
Course poster. Title at top in bold all caps sans-serif font: "Urban Housing In/Justice: Patterns, Crises, Resistance." Below that is a photo of a single row house with empty lots on both sides. The sky in the background is white. The house is brick with flaking yellowish paint, 3 stories tall and has all but one window boarded up. Below the photo is the course information and image credit, which are the content of the next image in case screen readers have trouble with this one.

That's a basic idea in geography too; on shared public spaces you've got Staeheli, Mitchell, Neil Smith, Harvey, Brandi Summers, but for interior shared space, Rashad Shabazz's Spatializing Blackness comes to mind, esp. the kitchenette chapter. Geographers, what else?

A (wonderful & very patient) editor is looking for a reference to cite backing up a basic idea in architecture, that shared space like hallways & streets contribute to social life, and my saturated brain is drawing a blank. What's the foundational work here? Holly Whyte? Jacobs?

Okay #gischat, what's a good example of when you need symmetrical difference that *isn't* something you can do with clip/erase? I've only ever needed it a handful of times, and can't remember why - and was struggling to come up with an example when teaching?

Open zine, black text on white paper, stapled at center. Left-hand page titled, "We invite you to use this guide in any way that feels appropriate" and has a grey curvy double-arrow to suggest "turning the page in either direction, you will find source pages, activities, and reflections." The right, below the title ("Jump in where you like and choose your own adventure") it explains that "some pages offer more details on embodied listening" while "activities guide readers through different listening processes." Two bold black arrows facing opposite circular directions suggest a cyclical way of using the book.

Lots of Covid around now. If someone in your household is sick, minimize risk of spread by opening windows, putting fan in sick person's window facing out, portable air cleaner near the sick person, humidifying to 40-60% might help and wouldn't hurt (more relevant in winter).
