This is the way, not No Kings parades. Coordinated actions that focus on capital's Achilles heels (ports, airports, trucking) gets their attention fast.
NEW: On Friday, dockworkers at 111 ports in 22 countries and regions on five continents will stop work in a coordinated strike against war, according to the most recent information from the organizing unions. More than 25 dockworkers’ unions have now signed on, from Marseille to Mumbai, Hamburg to Montevideo, Melbourne to Oakland. Days ago the count stood at about 100 ports in 17 countries, and that figure doesn’t include the dozens of unions in other sectors that have pledged support. Their demand is simple: no weapons and no military cargo through their ports. Nearly everything the world ships passes through the docks, and without the workers who load and unload it, nothing moves. In France, the main dockers’ union says the country’s ports will be 95% shut. Italy, India, Greece and Turkey face 24-hour strikes, and Morocco and Cyprus will see stoppages of up to two hours, with rallies planned in port cities around the world. In Greece, metalworkers, ship-repair workers and young people are joining the dockers, and in the US, ILWU Local 10 is striking in Oakland and San Francisco. The unions are working from the Istanbul Declaration, signed in May, with each one deciding for itself how to take part. They are also fighting for their own jobs, against cuts from automation and for contracts, raises, shorter hours and safety. The unions point to escalating wars in Ukraine and the Middle East and the danger of a generalized war. They condemn Israel’s new crimes in Hebron, carried out with the backing of the US, NATO and the EU. Israel’s lockdown of the city is now in its sixth day, with more than 3,000 Palestinians displaced, according to the UN. Palestinian unions have endorsed Friday’s action. In Italy, the fight has spilled beyond the docks. The union USB has called for a nationwide general strike. Last night, the Italian government ordered transport workers back on the job last night. USB said it would defy the order and accept the steep penalties. The unions are calling on workers and young people everywhere to stand with the dockworkers, saying “Ports for peace and the peoples, not launching pads for war.” I’m reporting from Calabria, Italy, and I will be in Genoa tomorrow ahead of the strike to report on the ground during the mobilzation.

Billionaires in California are spending $333 million to wage a war. Against what? Homelessness? No. Cancer? No. Child poverty? No. They’re waging war against a 5% billionaire wealth tax. They’d rather poor kids with cancer die than pay a little more in taxes. That is obscene.

We just learned more about Trump’s Venezuela oil deal, and here’s everything you need to know: 1. This deal is structured to hide the identities of people who stand to profit from it. You don’t hide that unless you have a reason to. And the man whose firm Trump just bought a 35% stake in? Alejandro Betancourt, a Venezuelan billionaire who has faced several money-laundering investigations around the world. 2. Don’t expect cheaper gas anytime soon. Experts have been telling us for MONTHS that oil production in Venezuela isn’t going to lower U.S. gas prices anytime soon. Betancourt’s company is able to deliver as much oil in a year as the U.S. uses in a few days. Anyone promising this deal will bring down prices at the pump is selling you lies. 3. If there’s a legal fight over this agreement, it has to go through a Texas court that Trump’s DOJ has repeatedly turned to for favorable rulings. 4. This deal creates a board designed to be shielded from oversight and accountability. Trump’s own Treasury Secretary wasn’t able to give Congress basic answers or audits when he testified about Venezuela just last month. But we should blindly trust them now? So let’s recap: Americans aren’t going to feel relief at the pump. The identity of the people involved is conveniently hidden from us. And legal disputes go to a specific court that disproportionately rules in Trump’s favor. Whatever you think American foreign policy towards Venezuela should be, Congress and the public deserve to know who’s involved and where the money is going. propublica.org/article/trump…

We are finally getting a look behind the government's covert efforts to access the contents of Americans' phones by seizing them at the border, without a warrant or even individualized suspcison. In @adc's latest phone seizure case, Imam v. Mullin, the court in the Eastern District of Virginia ordered the gov't to provide information about precisely what it did with our clients' phones and laptops from declarants with firsthand knowledge. The government submitted declarations that appeared to redact the relevant information, including the basis for the seizures, as well as what was done with Plaintiff Imam's devices. Judge Brinkema just found these redactions unwarranted and ordered the government to unseal most of them.

This is why people hate greedy, unethical @Microsoft. They’ve just installed an update on the computer of every user of Mac @Office 2021 that bricks Word, Excel, Powerpoint etc. We all have perpetual licences for Office 2021 but apparently Microsoft decided it was time to try to make everyone pay them money, even though the licence was supposed to be a one-off purchase. After some trial and error, this fix worked for me – posting here for anyone having the same problem: 1. Delete the Office apps (Word etc.) from the Applications folder 2. Download and run the Microsoft licence removal tool: go.microsoft.com/fwlink/?lin… 3. Download and install the version of Office for Mac from 6th October 2026: learn.microsoft.com/en-us/of… 4. Enter your original licence code for Office to activate it 5. In the Finder, go to Macintosh HD > Library > Application Support > Microsoft and delete the MAU2.0 folder 6. Open Word, then go to the Word menu, then About Microsoft Word and check that it shows your licence 7. Still in Word, go to the Help menu, and make sure that the Check for updates option isn’t there 8. Don’t update Office for Mac and it should keep working – you need to keep updates off or Microsoft will install an update that bricks Office all over again What a waste of time.

YE RUSTIC INN MAY SOON BE DUNZO In a shocking announcement on the Los Feliz bar's IG an hour ago, the staff have posted a distressing message: the beloved bar's lease is expiring and things don't look good. They are asking for everyone's help: To our Los Feliz community and lovers of Ye Rustic Inn, we need you ! 💙 Our outdoor space is scheduled to be removed on Monday and our lease is also looking at an uncertain future. We need our community’s support. While Rustic may just be a bar to some… to others it is a place to gather, their job, and where some of their best memories are held. It’s a Los Angeles institution and the neighborhood wouldn’t be the same without it. So we are asking our community to please join us tomorrow at 6:30 for a circle of hope and unity to act as a peaceful demonstration to show how beloved this establishment is to its patrons and staff. Small businesses deserve to thrive here in LA 💙 Please share and feel free or leave your favorite Rustic memory in the comments. XOXO The Staff of Rustic

Lowering the Medicare age to 50 would cost $180 billion a year. That's $70 billion less than the budget increase the House passed for the Department of War. We could have healthcare over warfare. I'm proud to cosponsor @RepJayapal's bill to lower the age from 65 to 50.
