Read and understand

One lesson every beginner developer must learn: An error message isn't always a disaster. It's information. Read the error. Find the file and line involved. Check what you expected versus what happened. Change one thing at a time. Don't just copy fixes. Understand the problem. That's how real troubleshooting begins.
